... that's what I wrote here ...

"Freddy has just completed a totally new and 3D Bf 109 G2/G4 fully active cockpit (not a clickable one, it uses keyboard keys) that will be released with next version of Histomod

Here are the instructions for use, with a few glimpses of the cockpit:

http://www.histomod.fr/Check_109.7z

He also then intends to make the Spit, P51, P47 and FW190 series ... ;)

... page 3 of this thread ...  ;)

TD team said that the light and shadows effects are possible in the IL-2 1946 and they know how to do it, but the main problem was that they will need to remake all cockpits and this is near impossible.

santobr.

AH AH! Eureka! So "They" say the effects are possible and they know how to do it! Great!
So nothing is "near impossible", it can be done! Hurray! There is still a shining light to see at the
end of the tunnel.

Thanks also for the good news master Freddy  8) This will me another major step forward
for this old and much loved flight-sim.
It just keeps getting better and better all the time.

lol

There ARE 3D cockpits in IL-2 already, since the game was first released in 2001...

Above is The very 1st response to my assertion that we did not have real 3D cockpits in IL2-46 that would function with
the existing dynamic light & shadows in IL2-46 -  He was claiming that we did , now I'm told we do on page 5 of this thread, ....... .....
So Was I correct in my original thread posting in my claim that we do not have real 3D cockpits yet ?? , or that Freddy has just published the 1st one ?

So will dynamic light and shadows work on Freddys new 109 cockpit mentioned on page 5 of this thread ?

You know, it would be awfully nice of TD if rather than holding off simply because they couldn't convert all the cockpits, they could instead activate the necessary features for the rest of us to use if we choose to build new art content for the sim...  Nothing lost on their end, lots of goodwill gained and much more life for the sim.

... well I have seen a video of Freddy's 3D cockpit (not yet public I think) and it looks like there are dynamic lights but I couldn't see any dynamic shadows, like for ex the cockpit frame or stick shadow on other parts of the pit (main panel for ex) ...

TD have to follow some quality rules, they can't just release an unfinished work.

I'm not saying release unfinished work.  I'm saying activate the features in the engine so that 3rd party artists can make use of those features.  Hell, TD doesn't even have to update ANY of the cockpits to use the tech, just let us make stuff that can use it.

So then, ..........
Where are we all with this topic?

If I could build a dynamic light & shadows mod and tweak existing top of the line cockpit mods to benefit
from the dynamic light & shadows mod I would. I simply do not have the skills  -

However, if the outstanding modders and contributors to SAS & UltraPack decided to
devote a section of SAS where only the Mods with potential to bring the IL2 game as it is currently coded
closer to what the CoD flyable cockpit experiences is
, and funding is an issue then, if measurable results
can be achieved then I can arrange for sas1946.com to receive additional funding to help with its hosting,
page development, and the various moderators time in coordination the Modders who could move the
game forward visually, in a Cod direction, instead of just adding new aircraft, flight models, skins, missions, object and a/c repaints, new ships etc.

I am open to all criticism, preferably constructive criticism, and any other issue I may be overlooking -

Where we started. It isn't currently possible for the following reason (already stated):

- We do not have access to the game's source code and it is highly unlikely we will get access to it
- Even if we did, we would need a programmer who was proficient in coding outdated versions of OpenGL and DirectX
- TD do have access to the source code but have stated before they don't plan on updating the graphics engine
- You can't simply just copy features over from CloD and expect them to work in Il-2. Doesn't work like that

That's how it is. We can all dream but a major graphics engine overhaul made by the modding community is not a current possibility. At most we can do post-rendering effects.

We don't have source code, but we don't need it. We can fake the graphics with the very good result:

https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,30752.0.html

(it is tuned now, and looks even better than those screens :) )

All we need now is someone who knows with java classes to apply these changes to G stress blackout or injured redout effect and to sort of copy-paste them for this one.

The idea is to superimpose this texture to the whole frame (camera) exactly as redout and blackout works. Make the effect last permanently, no fade out like redout and blackout, and maybe assign hotkey so that we can change it in the game.

Very simple but need someone who already knows java classes in IL2.

Anyone of our java sorcerers interested? :)
