In the map builder (Solved)
« on: December 03, 2012, 07:35:29 AM »

You have two different tile textures next to each other. You want to bleed one over the other just on the fringes so it does not have that square look. Like you would take a paintbrush and change the edges shape and opacity. Can that be done in the map builder?
Thanks

I edit the texures I use in a photo program when I retexture a map. I place a texture on the map and look for lines and repeating patterns then open it in a photo program and edit those out if I can. Look at the Falklands/ Malvinas map I just retextured, the area uses mostly one texture and I was able to remove almost all patterns and lines.

It takes a lot of time and can be frustrating but its worth it in the end. :)

Thanks for the reply and nice map. I am downloading high resolution terrain to retexture maps with the HD mod. I have followed a lot of your work and you do a great job. When the same tile repeats I am ok. It is when you go from one texture to a different texture. When I see maps already done I see different textures next to each other blended nicely so you dont see square tiles. I would like to take the texture next to it and reshape it or bleed over so it does not look square on the map. I saw one tutorial on the F-map and retexture that map. I was hoping you could paint some in the Map builder instead of just placing square textures.   Thanks I will keep searching and trying something to get the effect I need.

BA see in your map where the rock meet the ice it does not look square. That is what I was talking about.

I think what you looking at is how you can " paint " a texture on a map by using unlocked FMB. When I paint one texture next to another texture it kind of "blends ". It has a "fuzzy" edge the does what your talking about. Its hard to get textures to do what you want because the maps are a grid and tend to look like a "chess board" so it takes a lot of painting and photo editing to rid the squares, lines and repeating patterns in a texture.
Let me know and I'll help you as much as I can. I'm no expert but I love maps and working with them. We have some great map masters here and they will help out a new mapper. :)

That is what I mean. I am not getting that fuzzy opacity bleeding look in my map builder. I must have a setting wrong or not doing something right in the unlocked map builder. O yes I use photoshop CS6 to go in atexture files and heal out those spots you said. Those that stand out to give a tile look. I am also trying to put together a high resolution Pacifc terrain texture pack to use in retexture maps to 2048x2048 and maybe 4096x4096

I notice the default textures do that. I wonder on the textures I create I have to changed the opacity around the fringes to get that effect?

Blumax is good with textures. Maybe he can pop in and help out a bit. I'll pm him and see if he can give some advice. :)

Ok I solved the problem.
1. You must use 1 in the tile dropdown window.
2. Your TGA file cannot be 32 bit with the alpha channel.

Thanks all.
