More advanced weapon dinamics and damage
« on: December 07, 2012, 12:51:20 PM »

Just look at this video and compare it with the game:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=endscreen&v=RROr86sqiP8&NR=1

What do you see in IL-2:

Weapon falling straight down undisturbed by anything.
Weapon falling trough the plane or hitting it, dissapeer and blow up after a couple of seconds (If you use delay).

Can all this this flaws be corrected?

All ordnance is currently affected by wind and G-forces.

As for weapons falling through the plane (e.g. bombs clipping side of fuselage of B-29) well that is currently a limitation of the way the game spawns weapon objects.

About the bomb falling trough the plane. I din't expressed correctly. This is what I was talking about:

You're flying a dive bomber. D3A1 for example. You drop the bomb while flying straight and in level and then you dive until the bomb meets wit the plane. In that moment, nothing happened. No explosion, no big hole in the plane. Just the bomb passing trough the plane.

Well, actually in real life WW2 many bombs hit the airplane flying below and they never exploded either.
It just tore off a piece of it (a wing sometimes) or went right through the fuselage without blowing up.
There are even some very famous photos of some of those things happening.
So I donĀ“t think its actually a game flaw. But you have to take it for what it is, its only a game, and this old
game can only go to a certain limit in how much the modders can change it. There are limitations to the games engine.

Ya remember that none of these bombs are armed as they fall off the aircraft. It takes a good bit of independant flight from the carrying aircraft for the bomb to arm.
Carrying an armed bomb would just be, well, stupid.

but it would tear a big hole in the plane. But as of now I don't think the damage models will do much more than tear that wing off-airplane falls apart like lego's.

I am not familiar with the damage code of the game but I don't think it is totally out of the scope of the current code to enable what you are mentioning Kilo. Unfortunately I have enough on my plate and need to attend to more pressing unfinished projects before taking this on.
