CMR_Bessarabia v. 1.0-2048 pix in SFS

This is the first-test version of default the map of Bessarabia with 2048 pix textures.


It's the same as here:

Now packed into the archive of SFS.(size 349Mb)

For classic mods games.

Unpack both archives!!! in the game folder.(Get a file in format SFS named fb_mapscmrbessarab.sfs )



Add an entry to your RC file

Good Carsmasters!

  Could you calculate the rate of compression of the SFS packing system to the original tgas?

  I will later download the SFSs. Using it in .zip (with my TotalMODder V2 MODding straight in .zip) it is a 319Mb big file. Considering the original folder being 461Mb, it is 69.2% of the original size. Not very good, but I think .SFSs would not be much better.

Sorry for my ignorance but I can't get it to work.
First time I unpack this kind of downloads with 7z to start with...

I unpacked file #1 which is named fb_mapscmrbessarab.sfs but I can't open the second file I downloaded.
But file #1 is already 349 MB so I dropped it in my root folder. You never know...
After a search I finally found the RC file (#DBW/STD/) and added the entry @ sfs MOUNT fb_mapscmrbessarab.sfs but ingame still the default map.
Then I tried it with @sfs MOUNT fb_mapscmrbessarab.sfs (without the space after the @, just like the other entries) but still nothing to see.

What am I doing wrong?
Of course I've already installed the High Resolution / True Color Textures Mod and that one is working very well.

Can somebody show some screenies to see how the new version of Bessarabia looks ingame?

The intention is laudable.
The use of "personnal SFS" is possible but I am afraid that is the cause of many more bugs.
I do not think that the use of "unofficial SFS"  is the solution for the future of IL-2.

 +1 and, moreover,  for inline, I don't know if it is the good way but it is my personnal feeling.

For me, this packager is not fully optimized. I have made a very small test.
I have extracted files from original Maddox: fb_3do03.sfs. SFS size is 394 ko. When extracted, size of 3do folder is 2.13 Mo.

Using SFS packager developped by UP/II-JG51, size of new SFS is 392 ko and has been created in 1 second.



Using SFSA.exe, size of SFS is 987 ko and time needed to create this SFS is around 16 seconds...

... and if I use winrar to compress the folder, size of 3do.rar is 864 ko...

But, in any case, congratulations for this job.

Lutz,
             could you repack with your tool a big package like this map to check how it performs? In some way I consider more representative an average between several files.

  On the other hand, there could be a different behaviour on decompressing (when game loads). With small files it is difficult to measure, but perhaps with huge maps like this one, the loading time of a mission can be evaluated, and so compared.

  But eventhough I think that as Mike (Storebror) already considered the situation, the only real solution to these huge files is implementing a native method for the game engine to read compressed graphic files, so the skins in folders (something that you will not be packing or unpacking in .SFSs depending on what skins you want to have) can be accessed individually and not being huge in disk space consumed.

Yes you have reason, our packer may not be optimized.
Maybe yours is best packer at all. But your packer is only yours.

@Lutz : you can use 7Z extractor for unzip the sfs file, it will work fine

@Epervier: in the first post Carsmaster forgot the original version (without sfs) and in this version you will have the new bessarabia load.ini

                      I consider your work and most of what comes from AviaSkins work of the Russian geniuses, and always enjoyable.

  Your approach (one that basically I share) is clearly understandable, and I celebrate your SFS tool, in spite it may be not yet optimized. From long time ago I even propposed stop using .SFSs and generating packages in some wide known format (that's what I did for the TotalMODder V2, MODding directly in .zip files). But the reasons of Lutz can be understandable too. Obviously not all of us will think in the same way in such a subject.

I use the my personal mods version 4 09.

It is only the test version of the map from texture 2048.

This map has edited textures by default and my trees 2048.

Looking at the screenshots I've already downloaded this version or a similar one several weeks ago.
That version had a basic install in Mapmods, _Tex folders etc.
This new one also seems to have default 512x512 map textures with high rez BumpH files and high rez trees isn't it?
I love those trees.
But I still can't get it to work this .sfs download + adding entries.
