About the map_f
« on: December 17, 2012, 10:26:23 AM »

I have been doing search about the map_f. I am doing a retexture Okinawa in 2024 HD. The question is what is the best way to get the distance that the HD textures draws out farther? The blurry landscape is not for me. I saw one tutorial about takeing the map_f and retexture it for HD. I understand the map_f is for to render a low resoution tile for far distance but I do not want that effect. Thanks for any help.

I am sorry but I do not know about the tutorial, you are searching for. I guess, blured landscape for far distances cannot be textured. With other words it is a limitation from the game engine. And if you fly with openGL, map_F is obsolete.

If I am wrong, please correct me dear mates :)

Yes I guess it will be a game engine limitation to get that far distance to be less blurry. I am using download images of Okinawa from satelites. I have 4096x4096. Then I downsize to 2048x2048. This is better then the 1024. FPS is not an issue with 2048x2048 terrain tiles.

I guess, you use directx?

If you aren't shure, navigate to your game folder IL-2 Sturmovik 1946 and open it. Click on the file il2set (there is a little hammer on it). On first tab, called something like driver change by provider from "DirectX" to "OpenGL". And close it.

Step 2: Open in your IL-2 Sturmovik 1946 folder the conf file. Scroll down the whole stuff and search for [Render_OpenGL] . There is the entry Hardwareshaders=0. Change to HardwareSahders=1.
At last: Change LandGeom=2 to LandGeom=3.

Now, you have the far distances clear and not much blured/simplified.

Map_f,the far map
only works in open GL and running perfect settings
Sorry boomer, but in the Tutorial of Kevin P. is written:

Quote
This is the far map. It is only needed if you play the game with the landscape
in less than Perfect mode.

So when I need it by less than perfect mode I don't need it, when Hardwareshaders is set on "1".

I am questioning whether anyone who can run the Hi Rez mod and benefit from it would NOT be running the game in perfect mode.

Why would anyone running the game in perfect mode need a map_f? So just use the old clunky green map_f that originally came with the map.

I think I read that taking the Map_f and making it high rez you will get the high rez as far as horizon. I wa asking for a different way to get it.
