I found the aircraft was heavy on takeoff, but very quick. I'll certainly try and improve the maneouverability though. If possible, i'd like to set the centre of roll a few feet to the left of the pilot as well.
I'm working on the weaponry currently - presently the guns and flight model are still the same as the original P-38. The proposed aircraft would have mounted two 20mm and two 30mm cannon iirc, in the nose:

Also, got the cockpit working:

For adjusting the handling performance it is important to measure certain distances on the 3d model.

So the game uses the geometry of the aircraft to determine flight dynamics rather than just a list of presets in the FM?

No, what I mean is that there are measurements taken from the distance of the various control surfaces to the centre of weight and these measurements will play the role in general handling, where as weight and lift are calculated by different parameters. The 3d model is simply a visual.
Of course, there are some tools in 3ds max (and perhaps gmax and others) which can be used to measure distances, calculate centre of weight (distribution of polygons, so there are a few inaccuracies in this and it best to use the tool + some estimation to get the best centre of weight) and you would also need to measure actual lifting surfaces, in squares to which the game will use to calculate lift. Sensitivity of handling (controls) can also be modified.
If you want even, you could take 3 view plans of the BVP-194 rather than this franken model you have created if you feel this would lead to more accurate measurements based on the real aircraft. So I mean you could create the basic shapes of the surfaces and estimate the centre of gravity and get the values like that, or you could just use the 3d model you have now.

I have a book in the post which hopefully has the relevant projected data on the aircraft; the basics, including COG, fuel load etc are all given on the Luft'46 site, so i'm hoping that'll be all I need. Otherwise, I'll get the Revell 1/72nd scale model and measure the distances to control surfaces, or use the BV 141 I have here which is of a similar size and configuration (BV 141 0.15m greater span and 0.35m longer).
Cheers for the info,

Asymetrical airplanes are auspicously awaited after acceptance and airforce acreditation..

Alliterative answers are always appreciated.
Good news from my end, thanks in no small part to the members of this forum, I can edit the 3d model:

(crew nacelle).
I won't be re-modelling the entire aircraft, but I will improve the fairing and have a go at a simple texture mapping so the skinners are in with a chance.

New 3D model complete - modified rudder, fin, fuselage and crew nacelle:

(new texture is just to show the lines clearly). Work beginning on the damage model/skin mapping, looks like i'll have to do both at the same time.
Buchon, i'll release the next beta once I have a complete damage model.
