I do not agree with Dauntless1. HiRez should be an option, all mods should be made with normal resolution.

Personnally, I prefer computer resources to be used in putting more things in a mission than overworking because of HiRez eye-candy.

the only way for il2 surviving is to involve to highest standart and not to stay in 2000s years
when you play ROF and il2 you can see the quality gap between them (graphical dommage FM etc etc) ,
today if il2 is the only WWII simulator (clodo is a fail) tomorrow BOS will be here and will be more attracting than an old game with a quality gap always highter
yes Il2 have increased the plane/maps to a incredible number but the graphical/dommage/FM have not so involved

your computer can't use HiRez or you dont want? you can use S3TC compression! but the CPU/GPU/RAM are always increase so it is not a problem to use HiRez for the players large majority

Valid points on both sides. 

Hi-res options in texture is nice to have, but also raise some questions (for Il-2 modding in general):

1)  Hi-res cockpit improves the game - and so would hi-res plane skins, hi-res map texture, higher polygons in planes, maps and object models, more planes in the air, better effects, newer effects and newer gameplay elements (radar for example).   Can the Il-2 core engine handle all these advancements together?  If so to what degree is the frame rate and game play affected?  (Currently IL-2 still struggle to handle truly large aerial scenarios a la big bomber raids) 

Mod users always have the options to use mod or not - that is true.  This is more of a question for modders, and modding community in general, to consider in terms of priority and what gameplay experience they would like to achieve (like mission builders have to balance between historical accuracy, object density and gameplay when designing missions).

2) Also want to point out that while IL-2 mods can attempt to keep up on the graphics front, but it can also 'compete' with newer sims in terms of gameplay (e.g. night fighting capability development) and scope (e.g. simulate broader time period, more in-depth coverage of existing theaters)

3) The other question is also to what degree would it exclude part of the community with lower to mid-range processing power machines?

Back to question from Poncho - going forward, there is the option to up-res the newer cockpits, and also to add more polys to the cockpit or add functionality to the cockpit.   Poncho will no doubt balance the visual quality to be achieved against the number of mod users who can enjoy this and how this may affect gameplay.  It is really the choice of the modder in terms of what gameplay experience s/he wants to achieve.

Last but not least - thank you again, Poncho.  Your cockpits have drastically improved the P-47 flying experience.

WHen i added this mod it worked nicely but when i went to fly the D-22, D-10, and MK1 Thunderbolts, two different cockpit models are in one an the gunsights are off. Can anyone help me with this?

could you post more info? Randomly saw this thread...which modded game version e.g., DBW or ModAct 5.3 (etc...), if possible, can you post a logfile:

And, if you run ModAct 5, as mentioned, or later, use the version provided with that modpack.

If you enable logfiles, the resulting file will be in your main game folder and named log.lst.

Open with worp pad and copy ca the last 40 lines with the forum thread's "code" option into your reply.

Code is the # symbol when you reply, place the logfile aka log.IST lines between the two # # code brackets.

Tried to install this in VP Modpack. It looks like it works, except for the P-47D-27 cockpit. With this, I have no instruments, only the needle pointers. I read the thread with Freddy's P47 pits, and a poster posted a screenie of the same issue. I think it is from one of the classfiles that is common between both these pit mods. If anyone can put me on the right track to resolve this, or let me know if it will even work with VP Mod Pack, I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

On the first post it says " This patch was tested in DBW 1.71, UP 3.0, SAS MODACT 4.0, and HSFX_6. Worked OK in all except in HSFX the
external canopy damage did not show up. Not sure why at this point."
So it means it may work better on the 410 game version.

For the VP-Modpack (game version 412) I have installed the mega-package Jugs Reloaded: A P-47 Pack

and all work very nice in the VP-Modpack. Super nice details all around and new cockpits.
It Includes a large amount of weapons loads and all P-47 aircraft.

No go >:( Followed instructions. Installed SAS Common Utils, Copied the required lines in the air.ini, and same problem with the P-47D-27. Missing instruments, only needle pointers. Here is log report:


Relax and take a deep breath... there is always a solution to a problem.

You may have installed it wrong, or you may be having the same problems as some others have
had in the past.   It could be a conflict with some other mod or you may be missing some needed files.

Look at this link and start reading from REPLY#73 and all the other posts until REPLY#87 and
see what THEY DID
to fix this problem with the P-47D-27 missing parts in the cockpit dashboard.

Sometimes by copying some files from another aircraft folder may solve the problem  ;)
