Brigitte Bardot? Ugh! Give me Catherine Deneuve any day- not sure if she started her career pre-1960 though.
Definitely pre-1960 and gorgeous: Mary Pickford, Lillian Harvey, Zarah Leander, Greta Garbo, Senta Berger.

Edit: Catherine starred in her first film in 1955. Even though she was only 11 at the time, it's pre-1960 so she's definitely in!
