Is there any possibility that we 4.09 addicts can have our own discussion group? Several other dedicated game-mod groups are represented. I realise
that 4.09 is no longer officially supported here at SAS however that doesn't seem to reduce its popularity. Pretty Pleeze with sugar on it?

Isn't most stuff 4.101 compatible now? Even a lot if 4.11 compatible now and I really can't see why so many are still stuck on 4.09, you are rather quickly being left obsolete with the many graphical mods and the packs like Jetwar which are so code intensive they aren't working with older versions. Besides, you miss out on a lot from DT.

This is not the point. This site is based on the foundation everyone got the right to choose. Stick to topic, this was never meant as a discussion on why.
It could not hurt having a own section for 409 mods and discussion. I know this issue have been discussed by epervier

I will not participate in this discussion because of my ignorance of the English language and I do not want to take the risk that my words will be misinterpreted.
But I can say this:
- I am a rebel/409 for much long time. I do not know how long... but I would never rebel 410/411 !
- Only aircraft built between 1935 and 1945 I like.
- Jets, weapons postwar do not interest me even if I think they may have a certain charm.
- Technical progress (radar/missile/...) proposed by the DT or by modders do not even make me dizzy.
- The argument "but how can you continue to stay in the old version... blablabla" made ??me smile ... now she annoys me because I consider it a sign of intolerance.
- Have a specific forum to discuss mods 409 does not seem vital or urgent ...
- The only thing I asked and I hope to get a small part is specific for Mods only 409. It is not my decision and I respect the decision of the Admins positive or negative.

Long life to IL-2!
... and VIVA the Rebels/409 !

(I say "409" as soon apostles "410/411" want to join us...)

My point was more so that the word redundant comes to mind and such an additional forum would be exactly that. If we were all on the same page, discussions about mods entirely would be more fluent. I don't mean to come across as a conformist but rather to have a 4.09 forum for mods would only emphasise my point.

I suppose anything I say is irrelevant though as otherwise you would have already converted across. :D ;) So I'll show myself the door.

Hi "Rebels",

sometimes I fly my old 4.09/ UP 2.1 too, but I'm not a "Rebel"!

I'm only a friend of wonderful antiques...  ;D

(Please don't kick my ass if you'll see me!)

4.09 forever!!! The only thing that holds me on 4.09 is the PAT mod, F8 key to be precise. The ability to place the camera where ever you want is just what I wanted in IL2 for a long time. I would of course go to 4.10 and 11 if some kind of camera mod becomes available. As for the discussion group, its a great idea!

+1 for 4.09 forum. Respect for Epervier for all his work. I play nice with 4.10; DBW etc; but still prefer the 4.09 platform. All those missions I've had to re-write (sigh) just to suit the latest platform. Feels like groundhog day.

Cheers for this thread.

I am totally in line with Epervier and with my group we continue to use 4.09.

There are several reasons, but mainly we stick to 4.09 because, as a modder, I don't want to waste my time to adapt our mod configuration at each release from DT. Second point is that we flight only between 1936-1945 period on European theater only and some of following "official" version are not very interesting for us.
However, when necessary, we code what is useful for us.

Our 4.09 modded version is not at all frozen, include a lot of features (since at least 2 years) such as variable weather, improved G effects for pilots, AI visibility corrections caused by clouds-night-sun, AI's triggers, etc...

At this time, before end of next week, I will incorporate a new mod which allows AI taxiing before takeoff. I am not a video and fraps specialist, my development PC is limited in term of CPU and graphics, but 2 short videos to show what is possible to do with 4.09:

http://hist-simu.2jg51.org/Mods/AItaxi01.wmv
http://hist-simu.2jg51.org/Mods/AItaxi02.wmv

Because we have made a common development with UP, two years ago, all mods are packed under SFS format.

Just to say that 4.09 is still alive  ;)

 + 1 zillion ...!!  :D

4.09m is the last "stable" version, by "stable" I mean without code changes introduced for whatever reason, so this version is really open to modding and doesn't demand porting all previous mods to the latest 4.xxx version, and that means a hell of a lot of time and work on the part of modders ...

Modders can't spend their precious time porting their previous work to a newer version, while they do this they simply can't mod anylonger because it is a very time consuming process ...  :-[

It is like taking part in a race that you know in advance you will never be able to win ...  ;)
