If that video was posted somewhere else I might be able to download everything in various formats MP3 or
MP4 or whatever, but its impossible at the moment. Let me check some more websites.

in the meantime, get alot of radio chatter from here...

Very good idea! It would be awesome to play missions with authentic radio chatter in the background.
But we would need something without the engine noises.

Found this: http://www.manchu.org/sounds/ (somebody with real player could check them out)

Great idea gents

Don't know if your aware of a Vietnam radio chatter pack made by CY6

Some great links you have posted above Bravo and Max, would be great to get some more varied sounds into the game, so you could maybe load one for Air - Air or Air - Ground for example. I suppose there is a possibility of obtaining some very good sounds from Vietnam era and later as more have been recorded.

Would also love to see some WW2 and Korea radio chatter, but i suppose these recordings are much harder to come across, if they exist at all.

Is there any good radio chatter contained in other games that may be exploited? There has been a load of games over the years, EAW, Janes Fighters, CFS, Lock On, Falcon 4  for example.

Interested to see where this leads

Perhaps you could start looking and reserching into this for us.
We cannot do everything , at the moment we have so much to do that its impossible. We all must work together
and makes these things together if we want a better game for us all to enjoy.

Check them out Slipper, helps us out

Ok mate I'll look into it.

Only thing is I had a big clear out before Christmas and a few games I hardly play I gave to the charity shop.

I have no experience with sound files either so not sure if what I can find will work in il2, but I will do my best.

There would need to be a bit of creativity in crafting the trigger events for a particular transmisn or even time period, but if that can be done realistically, this would really enhance the sim.
Ya don't want somebody yelling "Fox 3!!" during a fight with the Luftwaffe over Malta, etc.

:o ANYTHING would beat the current stock 'American' transmissions;   :-* sounds like the wedding planners of a gay wedding going over the guest list. I turned off my radio transmisns for that reason. The Brits, Germans, Japanese, Ruskies all sound much better, but the US voices......yuk  ???

ps re: voices from other games, I have made a British chatter based on EAW voices. It's not perfect as some phrases are not in EAW but sounds ok if anyone interested to try it

I would definately be interested, and thanks for the tomcat chatter. Out of interest how did you extract this sound file and convert it to a .wav?

Is that all you have to do for any sound file you find is convert it to a .wav for it to be compatible with the Il-2 radio beacons, the sounds located in IL-2 Sturmovik 1946\samples\Music\Radio folders?

I was thinking it would be possible to set different beacons for Air/Air, Air/Ground, and maybe just general ATC for Airfields/Carriers etc, the player could then switch between beacons depending on the situation. Different folders could be made for different eras.

I must admit my knowledge of sound files is virtually nil, but is the above possible? There must be a vast quantity of sound files available especially for more modern periods.

Hi Slipper,

You're welcome and I will get the EAW chatter together for posting.

My workflow was: Record audio from the video in realtime using Audacity>>Save (export) as mp3>>convert to wav header with WaveMp3

Il2 doesn't read 'real' wav files, it only reads mp3's but they have to have the wav header, which is what the WaveMp3
converter adds.

The only fiddly bit is saving in a format that keeps the file small and that IL2 can read (5mb seems to be the top end) I used 22khz stereo and 64kbps for this one (all selectable when you export from Audacity).

I don't use beacons but would guess the file format for these has the same requirement.

I have also thought about using beacons like you suggest, I think it would work but the downside is that you would then have to add the beacons to every mission you wanted it to work in?

I can suggest an alternative which does work - I have created several 'inflight' sound folders and can access them via the console during a mission (using a similar method as described in the 'IL2 Flight Randomiser' mod to change radio nationalities, but I use shortcuts using script in the RCU file and bind to a joystick key). Then I can have some soundbytes from BoB film at the click of the button, or some rousing RAF march music when i get a kill or some 40's radio for the flight home or some BBC war reporting or Churchill speeches at the flick of a switch whilst flying.

Takes some setting up and of course it's not automatic to the context in your mission, you have to decide when you want to hear what, but I find it adds to the immersion  :)

Regards,
