Any P2V5 Neptune skins out there?
« on: February 03, 2013, 07:20:50 AM »

The title says it all. I've yet to find anything on it, hope it's not abandoned.  ;)

take heart, as my squadron CO (who is a regular around here) is finishing up a late 40s USN dk blue skin wiht the post war markings for my 1948 East/West cmpn I've been working on for YEARS and am now having to convert to DBW.... :-X

When He gets done I'll try and conjole him to post it here. It's a difficult plane to skin due to its frankenplane origins, but he has managed to after considerable effort. I intend on posting screens.

Hopefully someday we may have a standard PV2 (P-2) with some of the assorted variants, as it was an incredibly versatile AC and saw combat in Korea. That version had a solid 4 gun 20mm nose and a twin 20 mount in the tail as well. The version we have is still very good though, but it does need some skins for proper use in the 40s-early 60s.

I like the version with the 2 additionnal jet engines... like P2V-5F, or the Japanese P2V-Kai (P-2J) !

Sure looks like it. Wish it were in color. THis is one of the early models, with the twin 20mm nose and tail turrets. This would be great someday. Searchlights are built into the wingtips, and radar added to the belly. I have no idea why the guns are removed. Still had the twin .50s in the top turret.

The Japanese had thier own version that had turboprops. It was later that the jets were added, and I photographed one that had landed at a museum near here about 18 yrs ago, but It would take me a week to find the slides. Was a former fire fighter.

Take heart. I'll be uploading some misns in the late 40s using this nearly finished skin by a guy I met in my last trip to an alternate universe (where Spock has a beard and everybody is really unpleasant). He's almost done, and has made some improvements to the internal structure, wheels, all kindsa good stuff. I intend on making it my static skin to. Is accurate for the 1947-early 60s time period. Of course it isn't exactly the right model (the ones in the 40s and 50s had gun noses, or gun turret noses, and tail gun turrets with 20mm), but it's Frankenplane afterall, and a very well done one at that.

I just gotta find some dillithium crystal stuff to get my 4th dimensional warpage device to work.

It will suffice for various marks as you can see. I will reveal the true identity of this epic creator when it is done, which is very soon.

Hey, very nice indeed. When I was stationed onboard the, "Big O", in San Diego, I saw a lot of these babies.

I assume that's the Oriskany? If it is, Im curious as to what the airwing consisted of at the time, and how many AC were in said air wing. Seems to have varied alot.
