In need of some clear instructions
« on: February 18, 2013, 11:38:20 PM »

Hi all.

I'm in need of some clear instructions on installing the ultra packs. I've dilegently followed the directions here https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php?topic=28321.0 regarding the updates, but I've become seriously unstuck at the ultra pack stage. I was initially getting 30% CTDs with the installation of the 'UP 3.0 RC Client release' and 'UP 3.0 RC4 Client Patch' (the link to the #UP# folder a Diff-Fm for UP 3.0 RC4 is dead). After reading some of the documention on the cause of CTDs https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,22.0.html and subsequently discovering the issue of and the installing the MOD folder https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,7949.0.html I'm now getting 70% CTDs. Therefore, I'm about to wipe IL2 1946 from my hard drive altogether and start again.

I really need clear step by step instructions, as I suspect there's assumed knowledge not spelt out, or may be there's something missing. Screen shots of the what the folder structure is supposed to look like would be of great help, too.

Thanks in advance.

Cheers,
Matthew.

Did you activate "#UP# enable ultrapack" in JSGME?

Yes. I then switched everything out. This actually results in IL2 no longer activating at all.

Why do you want to install UltraPack3?
Install DBW 1.71 (https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,21514.msg239532.html#msg239532) if you got 4.07 or install HSFX6 if you got 4.11 theyre more uptodate with more objects, maps, planes, etc.

Hi vpmedia.

As you can see from the directions in the post I was following, DBW was the next step. It didn't look like an either/or option.

The situation at my end is a mess. The install does not look fixable.

Could someone please give me some clear step by step instructions on adding the content you guys have developed? I'm just trying to avoid the complete cock up I have at the moment.

Cheers,
Matthew.

Hi Matthew,

If you have a non working install, trash it and either follow the instructions in vpmedia's link above, OR if you do want UP, please read this:

IL2 1946 PATCH+ ULTRAPACK INSTALLATION GUIDE:

A very important thing to do is be aware that if you are using Windoze 7 you can NOT install the game to your /Program Files folder. There is some kind of conflict with WIN 7, so...

[1] Make a new folder (anywhere but in C: program files), name it IL2 and Install IL2 1946 to that folder.

You should then have a working version of 4.07. Run it to check. Then close it.

[2] Then you will need to download the multi-patcher from here : http://www.mission4today.com/index.php?name=Downloads&file=details&a%20mp;id=4088

YOU WILL NEED TO REGISTER TO DOWNLOAD.

Extract the RunMe.exe installer from the archive to anywhere you can find it back, then run the RunMe.exe installer. Point it to your IL2 folder, overwrite all files and folders. This will apply patches 4.08m, 4.09m, 4.09m_skins, 4.10m and 4.10.1m in one go.

[3] Check the patches have worked. Run the game and you should see the version in the bottom left of the screen on loading. It should now show version 4.10.1. Close the game.

------AT THIS POINT IT IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED YOU BACK UP THIS INSTALL------  (copy/paste it to another directory or HD)

[4] Download and install the 4.101m to UP3RC4 Superpatch:

It is a 6.5GB download.

GET IT HERE:https://www.mediafire.com/?dqlnn7dqunn7t

IF YOU PREFER TO USE TORRENTS:http://koti.mbnet.fi/raukorpi/UP3_SuperPack.torrent

INSTALL INSTRUCTIONS:

Extract it to a folder(on your desktop or a download folder for example), Launch the first one (with the .exe extension) and point it to your Il2 1946 ver 4.101 folder.

Once that is done, go to the root folder of your game and launch "JSGME.exe", activate "#UP#_Enable_UP3.0".
Afterwards this should show on the right hand side of the selector. Mouse hover over it, if it reads UP3.0RC4 you have it correctly installed.

Launch "IL-2 Selector.exe" from your game folder.

In the "game type" drop down menu, choose "Ultrapack 3" and save settings. Click on "Start IL-2 now!"

The splash screen should come up with"UP3.0RC4 based on 4.10.1" in the red writing.

------AT THIS POINT IT IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED YOU BACK UP THIS INSTALL TOO------  (copy/paste it to another directory or HD, but keep it separate from your 4.10.1 back up)

Happy Hunting.

You should post this set of instructions in the initial dnload thread for HSFX and UP3. It's excellent.

This is interesting in light of the recent problems Ive had. If anyone ever wants to rewrite the instructions involved with these incredible works by so many of our benefactors so that "new guys" can understand them, I would be glad to help, as I am familiar with the confusion that can result from the evolution of a project over nearly 4 yrs. Beeps' post above is very well done and simplifies the UP installation. Something like this, though a bit more detailed, would be very useful for DBW as well. Such as which dnload to use for what scenario.

This thread of mine has a similar theme, along with the huge amount of gracious help (and attempts to help) I've recieved.

This stuff could make an entire college course.......a B.S. degree in mod technology. You won't ever make much money doing it though, but I'd sign up for the course.
