The design was based on the Schräge Musik
The design had nothing in common, despite the fact that the fighter had to fly below it's target
According to Mano Ziegler in "Raketenjäger Me 163" (ISBN 978-3879433728) the weapon proved extremely effective, albeit dangerous to the own aircraft.
Dr. Langweiler (bore, drag, slowpoke, a boring or tiresome person - that's really been his name), the weapon developer, apparently found the perfect weapon for the 163 since there was nothing left to do for the pilot than to arm the Jagdfaust and pass the enemy bomber within close distance underneath.
However the blast both from the propellant and the grenade shell proved to be quite dangerous for the carrying fighter and after a couple of successful trials, just when the weapon was to be shown to Mr. Göring, the demonstrator Me 163 nearly impacted the ground when the Jagdfaust shells got fired from the shadow of a groundfog cloud covering the photo cells on a treetop low pass across the airbase.
This lead to an intermediate development stop for this weapon, only a few have been used "inofficially" and just one kill has likely been scored.
