1920's Futuristic Aviation Illustrations

Here are a few covers from a late 1920's French children's magazine called 'le Petit Inventeur'. Like all such future looking publications, they were often a combination of timely ideas interspersed with off-the-charts whacky proposals and prophecies. Ideas that ranged from landing stations for aeroplanes built like an Eiffel Tower, wingless propeller driven planes and giant landing parachutes for planes. Luckily, the helicopter was not that far off the mark.

Curiously the third came to fruition with the advent of recovery chutes for ultralight aircraft. The first one was used in Crimson Skies quite brilliantly.

4th picture is an actual Gyrocopter.

Although, I'm not entirely certain as to how viable wingless air cars are.
