4.09m Theater's of the War Game Setup's
« on: March 19, 2013, 11:11:14 AM »

Was wondering if any of you using the IL-2 4.09m game are separating your setups into theaters & time peroids of the war instead of just one setup with one very big mod folder for your game.

I started this project a little while back and so far it is working out a lot better than if I was using just one main setup for the game. A few items is it cuts in half the loading time of a modded game compared with using one that has many of the mods loaded into the MOD file. And if you run into a problem there are less items to deal with to find the problem instead of dealing with a large number of files loaded into your MOD folder.

The biggest for taking up time with this setup is sorting out which mods, skins, missions and maps to use for each game.

So far I have these 4.09m game setups using one modded game that "works" and that has most of the mods already in it... so it is more of a delete/sort the mods that are not used in that theater or time period of the war.

IL-2 1946 4.09m Uber Demon... setup with the mods that work with his UberDemon program.

IL-2 1946 4.09m Poland Finland USSR Early War... basicly the Winter & Continuation War along with Poland and early war with Russia.

IL-2 1946 4.09m France Britain Balkans... early 1940/41.

IL-2 1946 4.09m Pacific... which at the time I am working on and have not decided whether to spilt it early/mid & late war.

And one setup for the African/Italian Campaign's.

I have done in this way and I can say that this solution give:

Minus

- Update is longer because you have more installation.

Plus

- Easy way to find possible conflicts
- Avoid high classfiles CTD bug

The time for installation is more because of the initial setup for each theater. But I have been using one running main game setup that all of the nonaircraft mods already added, such as cockpits for AI flyables, effects, national markings, maps and other items in this criteria. So it is more of just adding the aircraft, skins and missions used for each theater.

I find that having less errors to track down or to deal with and shorter game loading is the main time saver. Overall giving you more cockpit time playing the game instead!  :)

Well just about finished with my 4.09m/SAS_ModAct2.3_Beta theaters of the war setups and now have the following below IL-2 games.

Overall enjoy the ease of each setup with very little problems encountered from working with less mods for each and a real time saver when you do as it takes less time tracking the problems down. And a much faster loading game when each game has it's mods added. More or less just a few maps and other such items for to finish up with.

As I stated before time was save by having one main game setup with all of the mods already added, such as cockpits for AI flyables, effects, national markings, maps and other items up and running. These would be your base game to mod afterwards.

IL-2 1946 4.09m Europe
IL-2 1946 4.09m France Britain Balkans 1940-41
IL-2 1946 4.09m North Africa Italy
IL-2 1946 4.09m Pacific
IL-2 1946 4.09m Poland Finland USSR Early War
IL-2 1946 4.09m Uber Demon

Any chance of sharing your files or listing contents?

Bravo... thank's.

csvousden... listing the contents off the setup's would be fairly long, as for say the IL-2 1946 4.09m Poland Finland USSR Early War mod folder which has 166 mods in it at this time.

The first item I would have to say is that "order" is the best start for any modded game setup, do it in small, one at the time steps. Also I open for say my mod patches, the game object page, mod folder page and the game main page all at once. This removes some of the chance of error and having to search around and then do one really important item that you'll need to do and offen... is to back up everything! LoL

Start with a blank setup of 4.09m and make a copy... use the copy for making the first running game with all of the nonaircraft mods already added and have this game running with no problems. Then use a copy of this setup to make your other games by adding in aircraft, maps and etc depending on what you plan to use this game for or what theater of the war you what it for.

Here is a screen of my IL-2 patch folder below... on this drive which has none modded games, mods and skins more or less, there are 931 GB being taken up on the HD and the most space is being taken up by just the mod folders. This setup for the patches allows me to just go to the mod I need more or less without spending time searching all over for it. But you will need HD space... I have three external drives at this time.
