I watched a WW2 documentary about this region last week on tv and that the Australian forces had a huge
battle up on those hills. A real massacre!
If it was not for them stopping the Japanese army,  they would have invaded India.
In the documentary they did not mention any air force helping in this battle, just ground troops fighting
to the death for almost a month.

You must be speaking of the Battles at Imphal and Kohima in India.  In China, the Chinese Army and US air forces fought against the Japanese.  Until 1944 the only action in this region of china was between the air forces, bombings, interceptions, etc.

In 1944 the Japanese launched their largest ground operation of the war - Ichi-Go.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Ichi-Go
There were major battles/sieges at Changsha and Hengyang and they captured lots of territory including the US bases at Hengyang, Lingling, and Kweilin.  They were finally stopped at the Battle of Chikiang (Zhijiang).

The books "Sharks Over China" and "Wing to Wing" are very informative about the war in this part of China.
Also, "Chennault's Forgotten Warriors" - about 308th Bomb Group (B-24s).
And any other book about the Flying Tigers.

Looks like my summer will be pretty busy with real life stuff.  More than likely the map won't be ready to add objects til the Fall.

Coincidentally, I just got back to fiddling with this map 2 days ago after a long break due to personal reasons (giving more attention to my fiancĂ©e haha).  I'll be doing a little bit of work, here and there, whenever I can get a chance.  I know some of y'all can't wait to get the map so I'll do my best to get it to you.

I only what to thank you CzechTexan for making a China map since lots of people in this world aren't very familiar with the battles in China before and during WWII. And I would like to ask is this work still going on?

Best wishes? :)

Yes, it still continues.  I can only do a little at a time whenever possible.  I don't have as much free time as I used to have so this is taking longer than expected.
Now I am working on textures and layouts for airfields.  It's very difficult to determine a layout of the fields because there are no diagrams or aerial photos of them.  The only diagrams I have are of the Japanese ones around Canton.  For the U.S. ones, I'm just guessing but they are close to their real locations on this map.
I have tested landings and takeoffs and they are working pretty good considering the very mountainous terrain.  some fields will have to use the new 4.12 "straight In" landings option...otherwise planes will crash into mountains.

Great news and thanks for your contribution, some of my Chinese friends have already been playing Sino-Japan War Campaign on agracier's Hankow map and we are all excited about another Chinese battlefield map.
THX again for your work and best wishes! :)

A good place to look for aerial photos taken by the USAAF is here:
http://www.fold3.com

In the past I have used the site to find photos of airfields at Singapore and the Kurile Islands. If you are lucky they have photos from China too.
For some of the documents at fold3 you have to pay, but reconnaissance photos are often free.
