Not sure what I'll do about the populating.  have not done any populating with objects yet.  Riptide-one mentioned he might help.

My honest opinion. I like the hills and rivers a lot. The rice paddy tex that predominates in the bottom photo (Amoy) doesn't quite work. Might simply be a question of colour adjusting so it is more to the yellow side of the green spectrum and less blue. I really like the other rice paddy tex. I'm not a big fan of Google Earth texes for towns and prefer to use a blank tex and populate. But yours looks pretty nice. And the scruffy air strip in Amoy is nice as well.

If you have some decent photos of Chinese town and village houses, I am happy to mod some of the Slovakia houses for you to use in the map.

hi Mandrill.  I do have a more yellowed rice paddy but thought it might be too yellow so I chose the more bluish water instead because it looks more like water.  I think I got that texture from the Vietnam map and adjusted the color to make it more yellow than its original.

I got the city and town textures from agracier's google china and I think it looks quite well imho.

One thing I've noticed about Chinese houses is that that are made of stone (white/gray) and have mostly gray tile roofs (some red).

Do you have links to any clear, detailed photos?

Villages have houses VERY close together!

At the bottom of that page is a link to regional variation.

CzechTexan,

The "Chinese village houses" are great examples of traditional architecture in China. It would be great if we could have some new China objects that look like those pictured. Currently, the "Asia" objects in the game are Japanese. However, if new objects are not forthcoming, there are objects available that, in my opinion, come close to the desired visual effect.

I've included a few screen shots of villages I put in a mission on one of my favorite maps, Viet-Minh.

Ban Ko La

Lai Chau

Nan Bai

Yen Bai

Village upstream of Lao Cai

I understand that in the past a lot of the cities and villages in China had a wall around them. So except for the more primitive villages, I've put walls around the villages. Unfortunately, there is no way to avoid a "stair step" wall where the land is uneven. With that said, I think overall the walls add to the Asian appearance of villages.

The screen shots of your map look great! Once again, I am willing to help out with this project.

Cheers,

Riptide

I searched for 'Traditional Chinese villages'
https://www.google.nl/search?q=traditional+chinese+village&safe=off&biw=1920&bih=956&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=YKkNVPqZB4KEOL3JgdgJ&ved=0CAYQ_AUoAQ
and found these kind of houses:

Chines villages look cluttered and packed. With the objects we already have something similar can be created.
Not perfectly populated, just a quicky.

Rocking!

The Chinese buildings have multiple floors, each with a little bit of roof sticking out. So we could create new house objects by raising some of the existing ones and then placing them on top of the originals to get a multi storey effect!
