My Brian Shul moment
« on: March 25, 2013, 07:43:38 PM »

There comes a time when a pilot, be they real or sim, encounters moments of truly outstanding beauty. Major Brian Shul an SR-71 pilot flew the aircraft for four years. After he left the service, he wrote a book called Sled Driver detailing his more memorable experiences. This included seeing multiple sunrises and sunsets. And one truly powerful incident where he used high altitude starlight as a panel light. I got as close to these experiences as I could by complete accident earlier while playing FSX.

I never actually thought I was going to put these into a video. I literally thought "I'm going to record an SR-71 flight at night because it doesn't affect my framerate". As such, there were various instrument checks. In fact you spend most of your time flying this aircraft staring at the instrument panel to make sure everything is running correctly. This alphasim model has an excellent flight model, and if you're not careful and observant, you can run into some serious trouble PDQ.
Anyway, enjoy the video  ;)
