In Pacific Skies
« on: March 31, 2013, 05:47:00 PM »

Here are a few screenshots from a new map that is coming along very nicely. It should be finished in a fairly short time - not the proverbial two weeks - but not that much longer either. In any case, it will be a Pacific Islands map, but of an actual location, where landings took place and where airfields were built. So this will be a historical map. In fact, one airfield texture was taken from the same geographical location.

Here are a few screenshots to show how it will look. Once again, it will be a predominantly 2048 pixel texture map.

Good to see you have mastered the HD textures thing  ;) :D

I'm still on 1024 textures

Planning to install all your HD texture maps in Bravos 4.11 SaS hsfx pack.

It has the HD skin mod and would seem quite compatible.

Just have to download object sfs packs and update.

I hope it was a reasonably easy transition for you ( going to HD)   ;D :D

Looking good  ;) :)

agracier,

Wow, this is going to be one sweet map! I am looking forward to it.

In order to use it, will the high definition skin mod be required?

Cheers,

Riptide

The landscape textures will indeed mainly be in hi resolution, that is in 2048x2048 pixels. I'm not sure if the aircraft hi res skins mod is the same as the hi res textures mod, I think in the main that it is, but with a few different components. But default, this map will be mainly with 2048 textures.

These can always be downscaled to 1024, it is very easy to do, but there will then be a loss of quality and detail.

The area is almost equidistantly far from Rabaul and Port Moresby both, the three together forming a right angled triangle, Woodlark being at the apex ... but for all it's strategic location, it's not a well known place regarding the Pacific War ...

Awesome, you are really on a creative flow lately and to be more precise, rather permanently!
Still need to fly your beautyful Skandinavian map. Unfortunately for me, health and eye issues prevent me from fully enjoying IL-2, but I had some fun these days watching and flying the WIPs.
Keep it up, to me IL-2 and maps are the only sim with almost a meditational aspect.

A few more screenshots - autopopping of cultivated fields and villages done ... half a gazillion palm trees have been placed, now only the other half gazillion and the map should soon be ready ...

Shouldn't be very much longer. In principle the map is finished, but I ended up with 8 free texture slots (gasp!) and those are too many to pass up. Too many opportunities to use some new textures for small limited areas, that will look different and hopefully have a different character and feel about them.

Maybe no-one will ever notice or even fly over those areas, but it's like an imperative - leave no slot unused ... he he.
