Background/splash screen help
« on: April 02, 2013, 01:33:51 AM »

G'day all. can someone please help, i have looked for some guides but couldnt find one. I had in the past re done and added to/doctored some of the background tga's, ie: DBW latest etc, but for the life of me after stuffing around for a couple of hours I am stumped as to what i did before. Can some nice chappy belt my memory please ? I have used adobe photoshopCS3 as wel as my normal MS photo premium 10. I have "saved as TGA" and tried to keep the size as the original TGA background I had used as my base template. but it doesn't load. I have even mucked about with the background MAT file. to no avail. In photoshop I changed mode to RGB  and saved. no go. as well as saved as pallet & true colour, no go. mucked about with image sizes etc. I thought I HAD to keep the image exactly the same size dimentions as the original.. but no joys there either. ALL had been saved as TGA's..I am a little lost sheep  can someone guide me back to sanity please ?
Big thanks in advance.

Here is what I know.  The name of the file must be background.tga, and it must be saved without any compression.  I use GIMP and that means you need to convert from RGB to indexed.    Then I believe, ?, the image size must be 1024 x 768.  Then depending upon where (which folder) you put the file it will be a splash start-up screen, or a mission start-up screen, or ..... you get the idea.

Now, if I have lied to you, then one of the "Smart guys" will give you the real answer and then we will both know!   ;D

I am sorry to hear you don´t like my startup/splashscreens for the IL2-1946
Ultrapack and DBW mods *sniff*   :'(
I knew I should have put a sexy lady in them from the start! LOL
But of course you can change them to your own style also, no problem  ;D
Its very easy...

1. Go to your main IL-2 game folder.
2. Go to your mods folder (For example: #DBW or # DBW-1916 folder, etc. etc. folder)
3. Click on the Splashscreen folder and then get into the next folder called GUI
4. In that folder you will see a file called background.tga. Substitute another pic that has
been renamed into “background.tga” to that folder, and now you have a new splash screen.

Still confused? Read below
Inside the SplashScreen folder there is (or you create) a folder called GUI.
Inside the GUI folder you can drop a file called “background.tga” , that will be used
as your startup image splashscreen.
In order to create your own splash screens all you have to do is to convert 'regular' images
(for example; jpg, png, etc) into .tga .
You can use Photoshop or Gimp. They both can make images into .tga format.

Any 1024x768 image file called “background.tga” will be used as your 'startup' screen.
You can deactivate the default one by renaming it “background0”.
