Dagwood is just random, really; although I always related to the uncoordinated, bumbling Dagwood Bumstead - and had the hots for his Blondie; just quietly. The avatar is a challenge to skinners I found surfing the net - the most elaborate paintjob ever on a VW Beetle. I love the dedication that must have gone into the work.  If it's good enough for a Beetle; why not a FW 190? Any takers?

All this discussion about avatars led me to revise my own!
After some years exhibiting a "Blue Max" I realised that it's time to feature something less snobbish. :P
I have found this cherub very appropriate.
Indeed, they are two cherubim, so that I have now two avatars!
After a time of indecision I decided to use both...depending on my humour ;)

This seems to be quite interested,

while this one appears distrustful...

The Cherubim constitute a prominent detail of the famous oil painting from Rafaello Sanzio da Urbina entitled "La Madonna di San Sisto" (ca. 1512)

Probably more famous than the painting itself, the Cherubim have inspired legends of their own.
In general belief, when Rafaello was painting the Madonna, the children of his model used to come in to watch while waiting for a meal.
The painter, struck by their posture would have decided to add the children exactly as he saw them...

Glad that he did so. Here in Austria we have a lot of Baroque buildings, paintings, sculptures
with myriads of puttos fluttering around but this two here are really outstanding and I simply love them for the way he captured their naive impartiality.  :)

Secesh was a derogatory term for Confederates in the American Civil War. I used to reenact said conflict...

My grandfather had a trick deck of cards where the hearts and diamonds were black and the spades and clubs were red.  It was so subtle that I never noticed, and once it was brought to my attention, it was SO OBVIOUS, I was amazed that I hadn't noticed it.
Then in 1996 when I became a web developer, I want a strong iconic image as a name for a web presences and for some strange reason that deck of cards came back to me and I used the name RedSpade.  Unfortunately I missed being able to register the name Redspade.com by 22 days and had to settle for Redspade.net.
