Treeobjects wanted
« on: May 14, 2013, 06:27:37 AM »

It looks that one of the basic treeobjects, Row of Trees (objects 516 & 517)is having a conflict with invicible plates, Friction mod or what ever shit... (pardon, i'm a bit pissed)
They are invicible for most of us in perfect settings and forest=3.

Maybe someone who is familiar with 3d modelling could add new really cool looking set of trees for Northen Europe/Russia.
We need talls, birches and pinetrees.

I would do it my self, but i can't convert anything for Il-2 engine.. It is all gibberish to me.
There is heaps of free 3d trees available @net
.
If someone could help us poor mapmakers, we would be ever so gratefull.

Good request Kapteeni. You got my vote.
A while back Malone also asked the same thing if this might be possible.

I have added a few links on that thread to download FREE 3d-Models for anyone that might be interested in
converting some nice tree objects.
Not only trees, but some other nice things that are needed for many maps and future missions/campaigns.

I dont see the point in placing trees manually on an entire map, it would be better if you could assign a .tree file to any texture. Iirc this bug (invisible tree rows with forest=3) was present in the stock game way before the mods appeared.

I know what you are  meaning, but still we need some trees. We have heaps of boxes, bicycles even barrels and tables. Why not few northern trees.
They are good for parks and certain places..

Hi Kapteeni, I agree with you, new and better trees would be very nice for towns, parks etc (the ones we have are sort of '2D'). BTW in the Egypt mode there's a couple of new trees, look good but pop up at too small distance.

What is the bug you're talking about? In my game when forest=3 the treeline objects are replaced by the nice '3d' trees.

BTW, I posted in Moscow map thread, for some strange reason when in forest=3 both the 'treeline' and the '3D' trees appear in game. Sort of nice since the pop up distance of the 'treeline' is about twice (3 km) of that of '3d'trees so when you approach a village or town tree popup looks not so abrupt. But it can be a problem on large towns....Check it!

Yes, Please!
I need this desperately because I've got into reforestation business recently since my graphics card can not deal with "perfect landscape details"...

I am using this object (tree line)

And after some tedious planting work this is the result:

Things could be easier if I had more alternatives. Let's say, a tree line with a dozen trees with diferent sizes and shapes.
BTW, if you had some better (smarter) idea to do this please tell me...

Oscarito:
It has been a long while since I started modding maps, so bare with me and mistakes here.. ;)
But..are you adding the trees in the Mission builder by chance? I would try to do it in the FMB+, the map making version.
You will find tips how to use the FMB+ in the map making section here..

You need Boomer's map making kit..

http://ultrapack.tuttovola.org/index.php/topic,1977.0.html

In the FMB+, you can easily scroll through various trees and bushes in the "objects" list.
The objects are actually named THERE as opposed to the annoying object number list in the normal mission builder. Helps a lot. ;)

I still have a hard time (agracier once explained it IIRC) to get how various random trees are assigned in IL-2, but we already have a number of kickass trees here, including hi resolution trees (prolly not what you search for atm).

To close, it is always better to add objects in the Full Mission Builder Plus than in the Mission Editor, saves framerates, AFAIK.

You only need the dedicated config.ini entries and the dedicated bldconf.ini file for the FMB+.
And a maps folder in your main install to save the changes..
See Up~Boomer's thread..

OK...good Luck!

Not exactly. I "plant" them according to the photographic texture.
Of course I do not fill every line because it will take a long time...
Just enough to get a convincing landscape. Did not notice fps decrease up to now.
Never useed FMB+ yet. Guess it's time to give it a try.
Thanks!

Is it supposed to be a link here? :P
If so, please, please. Put 00_PALMissionProCombo in Mods folder but don't know how to use. Need the tips. Search found nothing! >:(
Guess Boomer's thread refers to other kind of editing. BTW, got a CTD when loading maps in FMB withat tool enabled in jsmgemods. Is UP needed? Have just 0.001 Beta ModAct...
Lost, Lost... :o
