Sinking Ships Leave Oil Spills on the Surface
« on: May 19, 2013, 07:21:28 AM »

Just an idea for a visual effect for a sinking ship. I have no idea how feasible this would be or if there is any interest, but sinking or damaged ships do often leave a large amount of debris, wreckage and oil floating around on the sea.

I wonder if anyone would be able to recreate this in a mod? Imagine the dark, dirty oily sludge trailing a damaged or burning tanker or transport ... maybe even having an oil spill on fire itself ...

So Il-2 oil spills? Great idea!  :D

But then we will need a cleanup ship and crew.  ;)

No ... making you face the consequences will in fact raise your ecological awareness ... and this is meant half seriously and half as a ha ha ...

Nice idea agracier.
Team Daidalos were working on the debris & lifeboats after a ship sank - but that was quite a while back (2010)
Hopefully it might still happen?

Something else that would be nice is if every once in a while, you sink one and it capsizes before going down.

You can create the effect by placing oil barrel objects around a damaged stationary ship and then using the 'destruction' option to turn the barrels into little black splodges on the water, it doesnt help for moving ships but it looks ok for scenery around a wartime coast line.

Anyone know which of the 2600 objects the barrels are? Finding and then placing objects can be an extremely frustrating and time consuming job ...

And how does the destruction brush work? I clicked it 'on' and then areas with static objects seem to become green tinted as if through night goggles ... but then what? Shift, ctrl, alt and mouse buttons and clicks ... nothing changes ...

AFAIK destruction brush work only over city textures....is impossible to change an object to destroyed if not placed in a city area....I have done all object as destroyed but need some more time and installation optimization (because it must be common for all users) to fullfill the results before final release....not a great work but I haven't time lately....
