I would have thought that Bloch would sound the same as Foch (as in maréchal Ferdinand Foch of Great War fame...)... and unless I'm very much mistaken, Foch is not pronounced with a hard 'c' but with a sort of mixture of a 'ch' as in much and an 'sh' as in mush ...

But then again, I've never had an occasion to speak the name Bloch out loud or hear anyone say it either ...

Bloch is a jewish name (actually Bloch changed it to "Dassault" to avoid problems with Vichy France); the most famous "Bloch" I know was Marc Bloch, one of the greater French historians of the 20th century, co-founder of the Annales historical school and hero of the resistance to the Nazis (gain, spelled "Blok")
