Planes not exploding so easily
« on: June 02, 2013, 06:06:58 AM »

I would like to request a mod, that would make planes in IL-2 not to explode so easily, or at all (if that's even possible).
It really annoys me when I land a plane, then the landing gear fails, or while taking off the tail scrapes the runway and the whole plane explodes to a fireball.
Also it would help surviving from being hit by a missile and exploding instantly, giving you a chance to bail out.

sounds like you should rather practise your landings - you are asking for a complete rework of the damage models of each and every plane, which i can assure you, will not happen.
most DM's are pretty decent, and planes can take lots of damage before exploding, for the most part.
obviously, if you land at too high a speed, or if you are hit by a missile, as in reality, the result will be a fireball from which there is no escape.

There is the possibility of the option: invulnerable ...

I agree with Jaza:

I think an airplane entirely exploding in the air is a very difficult thing to happen.
And on the ground, if you touch a structure with the fuselage, your  airplane will simply explode, it doesn't matter the velocity, angle or something.
We can watch a NTRK video showing a V1 missile and a P-51 touching it with the wing, I think this is impossible to do now, something changed in the DM along the time.
For me, its a bug inside some old patch.
When I say "touching" I mean touching, I'm not meaning hiting hard with more than 20km/h.

I fully agree - i have already stated in other posts that that the reason why I think that teh CAP meshes must be identical to the regular meshes, and teh residual damage repoduced though a special alpha layer, is exactly this - plane do not explode or lose parts easily - this occurs only when hit with high caliber/hig velocity caliber projectiles - something that was almost unexistant before before 1941 (few exceptions, the Flak88 being the most obvious). Even modern jets, when hit, most often do not explode - except some exception like the Mig21 and the Mirage F1 that are kind of flying lighters - real combat movies and reports are here to show that. I really think that the "explosion" method used in java by Il2 needs to be revised

I have seen tons of pics about exploding Migs, but they are usually hit by a 30mm shell of the Mirage III, that shell hitting a very compact plane is very likely to produce such effects.
About the Mirage F.1 never heard that before, do you have pics of it? I'm not saying is not true, simply curious to see it.

i do not know...
all these clips show planes hit directly by Missiles.

especially the B-17s hit by that 21 foot flying flagpole:
how would one bail out of that?
death in plane or death by explodoing plane.
both mean "game over - please insert coins"

for jets hit by missiles it might be another story.

so basically you want modders to put the IL2: Cliff of Dovers engine and physics in our poor il2: 1946 ?

Well why not?
 :D

Its been talked about before, and IM not going to say anything is impossible given what we have in game now (Mig-21 anyone?), but Im not holding my breath.

I would like to see the static aircraft/vehicles not explode when hit/changes in the 3dmodel of the damaged aircraft but hey, that's pretty low priority stuff there.

This has already been requested: https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,27891.msg292840.html#msg292840
(surprised no one realised)
But while i would not expect it to be doen for all aricraft, if someone could find out how to do it, then it would be great for all the new aircraft

+1.

Remember Jane's WWII fighters how the aircraft would get trashed all around when in a crash landing or something? It was one of the reasons why I loved it so much.

But there are some things which people say here; eg:

It would take a long time to do and no one would do it true, BUT since it is being approved by so many people to add, maybe a future update would take effect with only the new models? Or a great person would do ALL models out there for us and bring us this request.

I'm not saying yes or no and putting others statements down, but I kinda feel like its me going back to Delta Force 2 and learning how to mod it on a thread where the last ever post was in 2010 and I just posted on needing help in 2013. JUST SAYING, but I like this idea.

It would be great indeed, if a fighter with two 7,92 mm MG (for example) cannot explode a bombing aircraft in the air  ;)
