Maybe I will come to CriX if he can get me into a plane.
I know how to hotwire. :D

Get me into one with a working engine. Give me less than 2 minutes and I'll get you your private plane!

As promised earlier, here are a few pics taken at the Johannesburg War Museum. First of all, my wonderful hosts, Piet and Wilmarli::-*

Piet climbing on a Bf-109F-2 Trop wing:

Having a look inside the cockpit:

We were very  kindly assisted by the museum staff:

The Hawker Hartbees was used in the Abyssinian campaign in 1940-1941 against the Italians:

Me in the Hartbees:

I am very sorry for the blur and the digital noise, my cell phone is definitely not a camera...

Here is the nose gun of the Me-109F-2 Trop:

And then we went on, in the Spitfire F Mk VIII:

It has the best preserved cockpit of all the warbirds of the museum I could seat in.

After that, in the Sailor Malan Hall:8);D

The Me-262 had consoles made of plywood:

A Buccaneer was there too:

And the superb Mirage IIICZ:

From Squadron No 2, the Flying Cheetahs:

After that, I headed for Cape Town, and visited the South African Air Force museum at Ysterplaat air force base:

It is an active base, with operational Dakotas retrofitted with turboprop engines (no pics allowed for operational craft).

A very nice setting:

A Shackleton and Table Mountain in the back... good food for the mind and the heart. To be continued, with an Impala, Mirage, a MiG killer, and later on, the Aviodrome in Lelystad!

(a Matra R-530 air-to-air missile, with a Vampire in the background... stay tuned).
