Some nation states - even those we consider as civilized - have elements within them that react adversely to criticism. Therefore, I have removed any reference to the member of our community who posted this as he still resides in that country.

Please note the warning at the start of the video, remember the rules regarding acceptable posting here at SAS and form your own opinion.

This is the video of the Brazilian dictatorship disguised as a democracy, this is my country, which I'm ashamed too.
I hope that my foreign friends see this video and share, to let the world know of the chaos in which we live.

Sorry, I can't watch the video and wouldn't subscribe to youtube just for this reason.

I'm curious, since I was for a short time in Brazil just for work, getting a personal opinion about it of a perceivable fear in all days life, both for common gangsterism and police severity, although I was lucky (and prudent) enough to avoid any bad experience. On the contrary, I experienced the great generosity of Brazilian people.

Things are always the same, everywhere... democracy does not exist. The democracy we are supposed to know is just another form of political power that the upper class used to replace the aristocratic power... they used the people to make the revolution (1789, France...), and then, they stole the change to their own advantage, and locked the system to make changes impossible, creating a new dictatorship. Power to the people ? it is just a sinister farce...

As long as peoples do not realize this, they will continue to be exploited by the upper class... many peoples lack of political consciousness, unfortunately... and the ones who rise against are regarded by the medias as thugs and vandals, as it is said in this video.

Thanks for sharing with us, and to try to open our eyes !

I'm Brazilian and I can say, this country is a joke.
Everything here is in the hands of some kind of mafia, everything here has some kind of corruption.
This is not a good place for honest people, violence is everywhere.

Well, apart from violence (yet), I can't detect any substantial differences between Western democracies (the so-called First World) and Latin American ones; endemic corruption, professionalization and segragation of the political elite, indifference or deliberate undermining of democratic practices and institutions, mass apathy on the part of the "citizens", etc. We all live in a "post-democratic" situation...

Yep, like cgagan says. There's no western liberal democracies anymore, and probably never truly was. It's all about corporatisation - both national and transnational; government for big business at the expense of the wishes of the population; disempowerment of the population; and increasing police-state like surveillance and control measures under the guise of "war against terror". Just look at the "Land of the Free".  No wonder there is a rush on copies of Orwell's 1984!

I agree, but in the third world you can multiply for 1000 or more in quantity and size, first world is a paradise compared to the third world.

I definately wish the world will one day be a free and peaceful place with no minorities ruling.

Interisting: Appearantly most of Skandinavia's countries seem to rank high in democracy comparisons.
Which is cool to me..but no surprise. If you take Sweden e.g., the level of overall freedom ranks above the rest of the current democracies and hopefully that will way spread out.

I'm from Germany and IMHO here's a lot to improve.

In the 70s, military dictatorship, where criminals and traffickers were violently repressed or killed ... but children could play in the squares and the streets were safe, it was a shame to be thug ...
The left was chosen: the constitution was changed, goal: impunity for the theft of billions of dollars (more than trillion if added), today the Supreme Court judged, condemned and ... nobody goes to jail yet! (IS TRUE!) Help sent to Cuba, Lula give political asylum for Italian terrorist Cesare Battisti, LULA shack hands with Paulo Maluf (the most corrupt in the world), the geometric increase of crime and brutal murders and absurdities serving smokescreen while until the money was stolen from school meals, medical equipment Dearest perished before being used ...
Meanwhile ... Senators, Representatives, Governors, Judges, Generals (yes, betrayed the troops and had their salárioa multiplied by 10) created a web where everyone has the "tail stuck" are getting not millionaires, but billionaires killing people with that $ deviate from hospitals, schools, asphalt lacking in the streets...  all must go down or nothing will be changed.
Corruption is the worse thing for a country, hit not only the things but the moral of people and his dreams...

Boy aint it the truth.
Our last two elections have been arguably the most corrupt in recent history
(for us anyway), and the absolute, stunning apathy of the populace has been on full display for generations now.
We ave entire sections of our population dependent on the government for subsistence, and the government uses them like the ancient roman voting blocks. Quid pro quo and such.

Im sure the NSA is recording this but hey, screw it. half the people I know are talking about armed insurrection as a preferable course of action to our current political course. Ten years ago I dont recall anyone saying the things I hear commonly now.

We are living in interesting times indeed.

We had the same police brutality when people gone out to the streets to protest against the actual prime minister and his party. There was a voice record that become public where that prime minister said that they lied, stole, they fcked the whole thing during their 4 year time. And people wanted to remove him from the parliament.
There are several videos on youtube i wont post them here, if anyone is intrested it can be easily found if you search for Budapest 2006.10.23.

(The fun is that this guy still has a party and wants to be elected)

Well... we need a world revolution... but peoples are not ready, for the moment... they have to suffer more to wake up !

The shame is that the only ones actually fighting, weapons in their hands, are the religious fanatics of Middle East..,. and what are they fighting for ? not for a revolution, but for a religious counter-revolution, wanting to go back in time instead of going to a better future... they fight for what they think is god, when they should fight for humans...

This world is upside down, really...
