  • Casually flying in IL-2

Well, as I want to wipe old IL-2 installations for Bravo's monster "Holy Grail" install with 4.12, I also need to get rid of my "Franken-4.11" folder.

Background:

I wanted to have LoneStar's Korea DCG campaign running in 4.11.

As this campaign is for 4.10 and requires DBW (and UP3?), I've decided to try and cram said mod(s) into "Bravo's alternate mod install".
I'm not much of a fan of switching between game versions before running IL-2 and I prefer 4.11's superior AI routines over the old stuff, so merging DBW's and UP's content seemed like a sensible solution. At first.

Well, the good news is that IL-2 launches and seems to work normally (I've started a west front camapign to test it and didn't run into errors).

The bad news is that planes explode on runways in the "DCG Korea" camapign.

I couldn't, for the life of me, get rid of that, so I have to heavy-heartedly abandon this experiment since hard drive space is very precious and the "Holy Grail" is larger than your average Wal-Mart customer.

Long story short:
In case anyone wants to further play around with a MA4+HSFX6.17+JW1.32+DBW1.71+UP3RC4 installation, here's my merged air.ini, technics.ini, weapons.ru, etc...

The .rc file points to UP3's SFS files in a "UP3" folder, so make sure to create one in your root IL-2 folder and copy UP3's SFS files into it.
DBW's SFS files are read from a "SAS_DBW" folder, so do the same for DBW.
Jetwar 1.32 should also be installed.

Installation:
Back up the "STD" and "XTD" folders in your #SAS folder and overwrite with these .ini and .properties files.

The original HSFX6 .ini and .properties files are deactivated and prefixed with a dash, i.e. "-air.ini", so if you want to switch between single files you won't have to do the whole copy&paste dance.

Your IL-2 will launch (mine at least did), but I have no idea to what extent the merge was successful.

I only want to save someone willing to try the same from more than a dozen hours of text file editing.

Good luck to anyone crazy enough to give this a try!
