What about river fords ?

When making map for WWI I noticed that it is not necessary to make bridges on every crossing of rivers with country roads, the cars are freely overcaming these so called river fords, which were then much more frequent than nowadays. What is your opinion on the matter, plz ?

creating an "ed_map_t.tga"
will control the water with regards to vehicles,and can prevent them from crossing water without using a bridge
