What is remarkable with the last screen is:
Roughly, between all of these aka each of these fighters were 20 years from WWI concept to the BF-109 and later the F-4.
Within 40 years from wooden constructions to Mach 2.

Nver again since then has aviation made such fast progress. If that was good or not is a rather sociological/philosophical question. But it is remarkable.

What you describe is only progress in detail. The Fokker represents the great breakthrough (flight). The other two, no matter how spectacularly, are only variations in detail. In other words, the real genius rests with the Wright Brothers, rather than Messers Messerschmitt, McDonnell and Douglas.

And as taskf53 points out, there are limits to that subsequent progress.

Resting after an airbase attack in the Solomons. You may notice there is still a pair of rockets under the wings, we were ambushed by zeroes and bugged out before we could finish the attack, and since this guy was an AI he didn't bother to jettison the last two to remove weight.

Taskf53 and Skyhigh: Agree, spent roughly my entire life since I was 5 being obsessed by Jets. :P
So I know by 1965 we already had passed ~Mach 6 in rocket flight.-
What I find remarkable is the transition from 100 km/h (and much less before) in 1914 to high Mach numbers and spaceflight less than 50 years later.
Arguably a hughe step...but I agree what Lilienthal and Wright brothers did paved the way.
 ;)
