South Georgia 1982

Troops insertion

It was the SAS troops that had the idea to infiltrate the argentinian forces in such poor weather. They thought the enemy forces would not put their nose outside.

Unfortunately it was so difficult that even themselves could not advance and after 30 hours in the same spot surviving the snow storm they were finally rescued back.

In the process the 3 Wessex force (the only air support the tiny four ships could provide) were reduced to just one. Two of them crashed due to poor visibility and it was left to the anti-submarine version to rescue all 10 soldiers and 4 downed helicopter crew. The poor "Humphrey" took of under heavy snow with more than 600 kg of excess cargo!!

Later that same chopper went to neutralize the only Argentinian submarine in the area.

Thanks guys for this important piece in our simm. 8-)  8-)  8-)
