Essex Class Carriers - "Long Hull Version"

The "Long Hull" Essex Class Carriers

The stock Essex Class Carrier in the game is based on the earlier "Short Hull" version.
Following a request by Boyan, back in March, the existing stock model has been altered to create a "Long Hull" version.

The principal change involves extensions to the bow and stern to accommodate an increased AAA armament.
Other changes alter the appearance of the bridge structure.

USS Boxer CV-21 (1948) - with open bridge structure.


USS Kearsarge CV-33 (1946)


USS Tarawa CV-40 (1947)


USS Valley Forge CV-45 (1950) - Korean War version, with enclosed bridge.


USS Boxer CV-21 (1951) - Korean War version, with enclosed bridge.

The files are contained in the ShipAshe folder. This text is included in the Readme in the download folder.

Extract into your MODS file, or wherever your installation requires if not a Classic Mod setup.
If you already have Yorktown Class Carriers or Lexington_42, or other Ashe ships you will already have this folder.
No files will be overwritten -- yet.


Class files  -- Choose v4.11 (for v4.10, v4.11  or v4.12 installs) -- or Choose v4.09 for rebels. :)

These java classes are superceded by the latest set which is in the USN Pack

The class files must be extracted into your ShipAshe folder.
If you already have the Yorktown Class carriers or Lexington_42 then some class files may be overwritten.

Before proceeding check that your game still runs. No new ships will appear yet.

To get the ships to appear you only require chief.ini (two entries) and ships.ini text entries.
Make these entries first, in your root/MODS/STD folder, or wherever your installation requires if not a Classic Mod setup.
Check the game works before proceeding.
If you have problems remove all of the chief.ini entries, check the game works, then add them back one ship at a time, checking after each one.
In each case look for other similar entries in the files and insert these new entries into similar sections of the text.

4.12.1; 5.22
70% CDT. Took out all "ini" entries. Added back just the Valley Forge. It works. Will now try adding the others, one at a time, to fine the culprit. However, the CATs don't work. Anyone found a, CAT, fix for the beautiful CVs?

Hubberranz -- Thanks for pointing that out. Corrected in the first post.

duffys tavern -- Testing was done in HSFX6 - v4.11 by me and in v4.09 by Boyan.

The catapult functions inherit those of USS Essex, which has the same flight deck.

v4.12 has not specifically been tested but I do not expect any problems with it.
Also not tested with SAS ModAct.
Let us know if you continue to have problems.

CATs work on default CVs & add-on angle decks but not on these beautiful babies. Anyone else with 4.12.1 & ModAct 5.22 had a problem? Any suggestions appreiated.

Correction -- The catapult checks were done by Boyan in v4.09.
When I check in HFSX6 v4.11 they don't work.

Now in my MODS folder I have SAS Engine mod_411 v2.6   --- This is also in SASModAct (a later version).
This includes catapult setups using Catapults.ini

Copying the USSEssex and pasting in at the bottom and editing as follows:

My 4.12, won't start with SAS Eng Mod 4.11. Maybe someone with 4.12, 5.22 has found a fix. BTW, still love your CVs.

I presume you have SASModAct5 installed in v4.12
Isn't there a Catapults.ini file included in that?   --- I don't know. Just asking.
