Flying Saucer

Dieselpunk flying saucer:

Inspired by an acquaintance of mine, who built this wonderful model:
http://brassgoggles.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,16767.0.html

The final version will be propeller driven; FM somewhere between a late WW2 fighter and an autogyro. I haven't decided on weaponry yet but if Gerd doesn't mind, i'd like to use a version of one of your laser weapons. Obviously this is fictional, but i'm designing it to fit in with the game in terms of handling etc. I'm intending to release a small range of skins, so iron sky, early cold war, "Fallout" scenarios etc can be covered.

You have a great mind but do not you think a bit too far on this one. Even through the Germans had a drawing similar to this one in their wonder weapons dream

Cool!  If you use S3's new Yak flight model you'll be able to hover in this thing!

I thought it'd be a nice addition. I think the issue with the Federation Pursuit Ship I attempted before was that it was a pure spaceship - the game just isn't designed to handle aircraft that large. This is about BF-110 sized and should be quite useable and hopefully, fun. I'm quite open to input on this.

I finished importing it this afternoon. It was a quick job as it has fewer parts than most aircraft:

Next is java code, weapons, FM etc. I'm keeping it simple for now; autogyro FM rather than YAK-36 I think. Armament will be a single "raygun" of some description (otherwise it's basically a fast autogyro with normal weapons and an odd 3D model)

Well, it is strange how nobody dared to import Hanebu into Il-2 skies yet. I hope this saucer will be some kind of breakthrough in this regard.

Just imagine, boom'n'zooming these with your Mustang =]

I heard about an UFO encounter by Peruvian MiG-21, I think IL-2 will be the first sim where one can recreate that. :D

Hey Matt,

I'm all for it! And so is my 6 year old son. I'm working on a secret base.

I'm not sure how accurate it is, it's tough getting SRTM data for this atoll.
