Version 4.11.1M SAS Modact 4 Jetwar problems
« on: September 10, 2013, 01:53:28 AM »

Hello everyone, new to this modding stuff and have been driving myself nuts trying to get JETWAR to work. Can somebody post what the updated air.ini file should look like? Also all the other files that need updated. I think the problem is that I am being a bonehead and not updating them properly. Any help would be appreciated.

hi, and welcome to the site :D
firstly, i just edited your post so that it reads the 4.11.1 icon. the icon you had selected was for 4.10.4.11.1 and 4.12.1, which would just confuse matters, lol.
okay, now we need you to also first provide us with some info as to what game version, and which mod pack/activator version you are using.
give us this info, and we can then move on to the next step... ;)

Hey thanks, glad to be here! The game is Il 2 1946 patched to V 4.11.1M SAS mod 4.0. Trying to install Il-2 1956 v1.3. Sure I am making all kinds of Rookie mistakes. Thanks again.

it can be a bit daunting at first, if you are new to IL2 mods, but just make sure to read all the requirements in the JetWar post carefully, and try to ask questions as specifically as possible, if there is anything you are unsure of.
you can always ask here in the new member's section, but sometimes it's easier to ask in the relevant threads, such as the JetWar thread itself, and the Engines Hotkeys mod thread (also a requirement for JetWar.
it's much easier for us to answer specific issues, than to generalise.
anyway, good luck with it, and feel free to ask when you are unsure of something. ;)

Specifically, I think the problem is I am improperly updating the ini files. I wanted to know if someone could post what they should look like (as in text mode) after the aircraft are added.

okay,
for easier forum use, whenever you post up a lot of text info, please make use of the 'insert code' option in the preview panel (just above right of the last smiley icon, # symbol)
then paste your text in between the middle brackets.
now, is this the first time you are trying to add any new planes?
i can guide you through it, no problem.
another thing to consider, though - very soon we will have the Jetwar stuff ready for use with the 4.12.1 Modact 5.2 game version, and then we will soon be releasing a great new mod that completely eliminates the need for making any ini entries at all - which i'm sure the community at large will enjoy, especially any newcomers.
that means that you might want to wait a little while, and rather patch up your game to the latest 4.12.1 version, and then add the latest Modactivator 5.2
doesn't really matter - you can have as many game versions as you like on one pc, that is no problem.
post up the entries that you think you have to add to your ini, and i'll talk you through it. ;)

Thanks, may just wait for the new version. Yes this is my first time adding new aircraft. Basically the text lines I was attempting to add to ini were the new planes i.e. F-86 etc. My question really is does it matter at what point in the file you place the new entries. Does it have to be aphabetically? The staionary and technics files are the ones I am finding most confusing. Will post the text lines next time I am at the computer. Noticed a couple other things with modact like carrier planes lined up abreast and the bouncing fuselage bit, but one thing at a time right? Thanks for your help and patience.

for adding new planes, it's actually not that tricky.
note that the only entries required are the air.ini entries for planes - the other entries like the ru. entries, weapons, etc are merely for cosmetic purposes (how they will look in the game menus) and actually don't need to be added at all.
so, if you want to start step by step, start by just adding the air.ini entries.
don't worry about the other entries for now.
it doesn't really matter where in the air.ini file it goes, just remember that the planes will appear in the game menu lists as they appear in the air.ini file.
so, if you add the jetwar planes entries in at the bottom of the air.ini file, they will appear at the bottom of the plane list in the game.
so, i recommend just starting with the air.ini entries, and you will have the planes ingame.
the other technics, stationary and .ru entries can be tackled later, once you are more comfortable with it.

so, you just copy the air entries from the Jetwar readme, into the bottom of the air.ini file (located at Il2/#SAS/STD/com/maddox/il2/objects/... folder)
these entries:

A-1H_Tanker     air.A1H_Tanker 1               NOINFO  usa01 DESERT
F-86A5          air.F_86A5 1                                    usa01 SUMMER
F-86D40           air.F_86D40                               NOINFO  usa01 SUMMER
F-86D45           air.F_86D45                               NOINFO  usa01 SUMMER
F-86E10         air.F_86E_10                            NOINFO  usa01 SUMMER
F-86F25E        air.F_86F_25E 1                                 usa01 SUMMER
F-86F25L        air.F_86F_25L 1                                 usa01 SUMMER
F-86F40         air.F_86F_40                            NOINFO  usa01 SUMMER
F-86K           air.F_86K                               NOINFO  usa01 SUMMER
SabreMk31      air.CAC_Sabre_Mk31 1              NOINFO  usa01 SUMMER
SabreMk32      air.CAC_Sabre_Mk32 1               NOINFO  usa01 SUMMER
FJ3M_Fury      air.FJ_3M 1                     NOINFO  usa01 SUMMER
MiG-15          air.Mig_15 1                        NOINFO  r01   SUMMER
MiG-15(bis)    air.Mig_15bis 1                  r01   SUMMER
MiG-15SB         air.MiG_15SB 1                NOINFO  r01   SUMMER
MiG-17A         air.Mig_17A                     NOINFO  r01   SUMMER
MiG-17F        air.Mig_17F 1                                   r01   SUMMER
MiG-17PF      air.Mig_17PF                  NOINFO  r01   SUMMER
Tu-4              air.TU_4 1                            NOINFO  r01   SUMMER

save the air.ini file, and start the game, you should now have the Jetwar planes in the plane list.

PS: it should go without saying, before making any changes to any ini file, always make a backup of the file first, and keep it somewhere where you can restore it if there is any stuff-up along the way. ;)

okay, have the planes on the list now. Can't use them or see them but at least the mod is not crashing. Add the lines of text to the other files the same way...at the end?

for the weapons entries, yes, and i guess, for the planes.ru.properties list as well
i don't bother with the weapons entries at all, and seldom the planes.ru, either (this simply will show the planes in the list with the description as per the entry, otherwise they will simply have the description as per the air.ini entry.
now, you say you can see them in the list, and not use them or see them.
what exactly happens when you select one from the list and try to fly - be specific, please.....
can you please post up your air.ini file contents as it appears now, for me to look at?
have you installed the AI Engines 2.6RC mod, as per this thread: https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,23327.0.html
it is needed for Jetwar to work properly, the carrier catapults and other jet-specific features.
