Adding new airfields in FMB; possible?
« on: September 14, 2013, 11:02:33 AM »

I was wondering if it's possible to add new airfields in FMB? Specifically, I'm interested in creating landing areas in the water for the legion of new seaplanes. Do I have to create a new map? Can I Just drop a landing onto an existing map, somehow? I lack the expertese to try making a new map. After reading a couple of tutorials on the subject my hair began to hurt.

I was under the impression that seaplanes could land anywhere on water but I've never actually tried it.
That being said what about the Test Runways in FMB.  If you look under Ships in FMB you'll see a bunch of Test Runways at the end of the list.  A few of them are "invisible" (they show up red in FMB but are invisible when playing the game).  Try one on water and see if that works.  If it does work then you don't need to get into map modding just to add a seaplane base.
Post back here on your results.
Good luck.
 :)

NOTE:  one thing about the Test Runways, a couple of them are higher than the ground surface and your plane will "fall" off if you leave the runway and will get damaged.  I'm not sure why the developers did that as it doesn't make much sense unless you put a lot of them side by side (one big slab of a runway).  I noticed in 4.12 there are now runway Objects so that is also a possibility.

#1 & #2 are the raised ones... #3 is flat and black...#4, 5, & 6 are transparent.
#4 is normal sized, #5 is big, and #6 is huge.
Remember, these are aircraft carriers. After an AI. seaplane lands, it will vanish after a minute.

I wish that 4.12 had included simple landing areas with taxi points in the object list.  Since the sea is always flat, you could throw them down anywhere.

Speaking of that, couldn't an object like that be "modded" into the game?
