Topic: Last FHC Fly Day -IL-2 & Fw 190 (Read 3256 times)

I know a couple folks here live pretty close to Flying Heritage Collection and just wanted to put up a reminder that the final fly day of 2013 will be held this Saturday at Paine Field in Everett, Washington. This final ne will feature the Il-2M3 and Fw-190A-5, both having combat history serving on the Eastern Front, and both being the only originals of their kind flying anywhere in the world.

Here's how this season has looked so far (with only a couple clips from Summer 2012)

And how the last event on September 7th looked:

Was going to bring 3 others, but they have now bailed on me

was hoping to show them the world of WWWII flight sims as well.

Taxman - great, I'm feeling confident the weather will break just long enough to get a good show in. All we need is 3 miles visibility and 1,000' ceiling. :-)

Man-Oh-Man that was a great day!! Steve Hinton (Fw-190) and Ross Granley (IL-2) put on, I think, the best display of 2013 this afternoon. All of the pilots say the Il-2 is NOT a fun airplane to fly, but boy Ross made it look easy! My two favorite passes included a beautiful banana pass that began with Ross climbing the Il-2 way up into the sky, then sharply banking left, kicking the rudder, and diving toward the runway. Since I watch from opposite the show line, it meant that diving pass put me right in the cross-hairs of the Il-2!! The last sight many German tank commanders saw! The other was a beautifully setup pass which involved Steve Hinton flying right on the tail of the Il-2, rocking his wings left and right as if setting up for a good gun shot. As Ross brought the Il-2 closer to the crowd, he began jinking left and right as well. Totally awesome! Gave me goosebumps! That Il-2 certainly lost yet another exposed gunner! Talk about a great way to showcase these two birds, especially since this was the FIRST TIME since 1945 that an Il-2 and Fw-190 had occupied the same airspace! I had goosebumps the entire time.

The video is processing right now and will be uploaded soon. I will be attending a hockey game this evening, so may not be able to post the link directly here myself. (Talk about a perfect life, air show season ends in the afternoon, hockey begins that very same evening!)

I was on the other side, watched the roll out, take off and same of what "fight2flyphoto". I was with the folks that where "starfed" and did get some shots of the passes. Been a long day for me as I drove up from Portland, Or, good weather going, rain in Portland and of course "traffic incenidents" took me an hour longer to get home.

I hope to beable to do some posting on Sunday, will see, my first time. ???

Glad you got up here and enjoyed the show! Weather was perfect, with nice clouds in the background.

Thanks for the video Flight2, really captured feel of the day. I had a chance to talk to Steve Hunt, FW190 pilot, before hand. All in all a great day for WWII avation buffs.

I estimate the that there was at least 500 or more folks there watching.
