Where did you found RocketSidewinderSpriteBlack.eff file I tried to look but not found. I am interested to do my own testing with those smokes and I can provide help for fresco23 if he needs

Its in the up_effects01.sfs in your game root, you can get it with the sfs extractor.

like VP said, used the sfs extractor tool.

This is about the most useful tool btw... so many applications. I took the time to download it and it's awesome. Even has the "Find..."  feature which cuts down on time if you know what your looking for. In this case, I simply typed "eff" in the find text bar and it skipped right to all of the .eff files. then I extracted it to desktop, and done. now it's ready to be edited later!

Making progress, I'll post a picture or two tomorrow for you guys to see what you think. So far, I managed to get the exhaust trail/smoke to be a shorter length, more transparent, and slightly narrower trail... ie: it's gassier and goes away much faster.. However it needs a bit more work.

The effect carries over to all jetwar missiles, and any missiles based on these. That's why I want to keep tinkering with it before I say it's finished, because you'll be seeing it on every a2a missile. I just want to be sure it's acceptable all around!  ;D

NEW MISSILE EXHAUST

The new missile smokes are designed to offer a lighter, shorter lasting exhaust effect for Aim-9 sidewinders. The effect is universal however, so it will actually be used on ALL JetWar missiles.  ;D I do not know of any way around this without making new effects, and causing the missiles to look at those.

After some hours I managed to figure out the basics of the .eff files (along with help from an .eff thread here) mostly by trial and error, and a little common sense. However... actually getting it to look like I wanted was much trickier...  ;D I am happy with it for now. I hope you all like it. The above pics really don't do a good job of showing the effect, as they look very different from the cockpit, so all I can say is give it a shot and let me know what you think. I'm grateful for all forms of advices and criticisms.

HERE'S THE SMOKE
https://www.mediafire.com/download/a0uu5w6th1uvfg3/%21FRESCO%27S_Less_Missile_Smoke.rar

These effects were created under #DBW running JetWar 1.32. That being said, the .eff file originated within the SASAMT_Jetwar_SFS file, so I believe it will work under ANY JetWar equipped game.

Required:

        1. A JetWar 1.32 equipped modded Il-2 1946 game.
        2. This MOD.

Installation/Use:

        1. Extract the "!FRESCO'S_LESS_MISSILE_SMOKE" to your #DBW or #SAS or #MODS
        2. Run IL-2 1946
        3. Blow stuff up.

Credits:
        1. 1C/Maddox for IL-2
        2. SAS and AMT for JetWar MOD and general awesomeness.
        3. Hangman for encouragement, for the opportunity to do this, and for offers of help.
        4. Steven197106 for the original idea.
        5. Fresco23 for .eff editing and (NOT SO)epic screenshots.  ;D

Please let me know what you think.
If this is acceptable id like to add it in the Effects area with admins permission of course.

Thanks
Your friendly, neighborhood Fresco

The engine smoke on the f-4 phantom I think need to be more smokier, The J79 engines produced noticeable amounts of black smoke.

Well jetsmokes what phantoms use are also used by luftwaffe jets so I think it needs some coding to get only phantoms to show more smoke but it is possible to do
