As far as other maps... http://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/5594-will-there-be-other-maps/?p=108154

With the game reaching 50% a new user made map is nearing completion, a quick read of the whole thread will give you all the info

http://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/5594-will-there-be-other-maps/

very promising for the future considering this early stage

For me this sim gives the best feel of physics and flight ever as far as the Russian planes. I dont like the german ones. It is some funny 10 minutes in current version

yes, what i've experienced is really good, the potential for this, if developed properly, is astounding.
the physics feel right, cockpit immersion is superb, the lack of any object pop-ups on the map(objects in the distance come into view seamlessly as you get closer), the much better feeling of altitude and speed when flying closer to the ground, the epic mile high columns of smoke that are visible from miles away, as they should be, and seem to have no real effect on framerate, these are just some of the things i noticed.
in fact, although i obviously should upgrade my PC for this sort of next-gen game, it still played relatively well, with no significant frame drop-offs at any stage.
the only time i noticed a slowdown was when panning around inside the cockpit quickly. this led to some slow blurring of the scene, which very quickly disappeared when i stopped . panning around slower also helped a lot, lol.
so, yes, it still has some ways to go, no doubt, but my overall impression of it in this early stage, is extremely good.
considering that i've never really been able to get CloD running properly yet, my first outing in this new sim was really enjoyable.
i'll be in the queue for this when its released, definitely :D

edit: if i have one major gripe at the moment, its the overly complicated control setup.
while i can appreciate a good flight sim having multitudes of control options, when things go wrong, as they did for me, it can quickly become a nightmare.
i found that suddenly many of my controls were being shared with more than one input, and this all seemed to happen of its own accord.
my elevators became reversed, and no amount of trying to correct it in setup worked. the game would only recognise one direction on my joystick, so i found myself left stuck with a reversed elevator control.
at this point, i ended my test flight. :D

"the only time i noticed a slowdown was when panning around inside the cockpit quickly. this led to some slow blurring of the scene, which very quickly disappeared "

Go to settings-Camera and turn off cinematic . This should turn off the "motion blur" effect

hopefully the controls bug will get fixed this Friday update, the bug seems to happen more often when changing settings while ingame

Malone switch of cinematic view in setup , this will remove the blurry view when moving the head

And CWMV, I am such a lousy incompetent non motivated fighter pilot, that efficiency is no concern of mine. I just like the feel in turns and the realistic feel it gives.
If There where no bombers in combatsims I would simply not do it

Bought it couple of days ago after learning that Shvchenko's done a runner again and only tried it just now without expecting much... I have all jets and choppers in DCS, flown the free Mustang there a couple of time too, so was totally surprised by how much I was touched by BOS! Not just impressed, it really did touch me deep :) The feeling of the Lagg-3 taxiing and taking off is just beyond words. It feels so heavy and yet powerful and cool! The cockpit looks plain/boring, on the other hand the winter and external model look good, external model in particular- the texture and different materials of the plane are superbly done (better than DCS). Polygon count of the models is higher in DCS, the prop spinner and wheels are more round, but planes look better in BOS - purelly because of lighting texture, materials feel much more tangible and proper.

On balance, I honestly believe that every single fan of IL2 owes it to himself to experience this- take Lagg3 for a take off and landing and then just watch the replay of it on the F2 camera- goose bumps!:) This experience alone is worth the price of admission, even if everything else will turn out to be crap.

Most screens do not do it justice, for one the superbly done snow spray form the prop looks superb in motion, but very poor when frozen in pause. Buildings and trees look really cool in motion blur, but sharp and unrealistic in motion blur-less paused screenies. Motion-blur is captured when screnshoting without pause, but then its hard to get the angle right. The motion of the plane, the way it rocks and bobbles and the way its suspension is playing around, the sound of the brakes - all these are beyond screenies too :) Great showpiece of plane sim engineering and art! I certainly keep my fingers crossed ofr its single player to come together now.
