Mig-21 Bunny Fighter (with custom painted ordinance!)
« on: December 01, 2013, 10:44:25 AM »

Ladies and gentlemen, let me proudly present the magnificent
BUNNY FIGHTER
in all its glory and silliness.

This ex-Czech air force Mig-21BFC (bomber-fighter-cannibalized) participated in the most epic African conflict you have never heard of, Carrot Wars of 2011. It was flown by infamous Czech pilot Eduard 'Carrol Bunnyfield' Kleinkönig who employed unusual camouflage as a mean to attract enemy aircraft (and was quite successful at it).
Even though credited with three air-to-air kills Bunny Fighter achieved massive success in ground attack role. For this purpose it was outfitted with two double-barrel 30 mm. cannon in underwing pods. Those were reported as extremely effective against Fulb and Tuareg combat camels. Aircraft also carried several types of soviet-made unguided rockets, all painted orange and green, to disguise them as carrots. Same camouflage was applied to R3S and R3R missiles.

You can read more about Bunny Fighter here, page 19:

This package includes:
-Incredible blue-green-orange skin for Mig-21MF in HD 2048x2048
-Slightly less incredible version of this skin in regular 1024x1024
-Repaint for R3S missile
-Repaint for R3R missile
-Repaint for S-24 rocket
-Repaint for UB-32-57 rocket pod
-Repaints for belly and wing pylons
-OMG TOTALLY LOOKS LIKE CARROT repaint for 490L droptank
Custom pilot skin may come later.

Download here:
https://www.mediafire.com/?e9zgzazb24c53r7

Installation:
Aircraft skin:
Extract file to your desktop or any other safe place. Choose your version (2048 or 1024), open selected folder and copy its content into your main Il-2 folder.
Ordinance skins:
-Quit the game.
-Open your mods folder (#DBW, #SAS or whichever you put your mods into) and make a backup copy of flowing folders:
000_MiG-21_Third_Generation
L-159G
MiG_21
Warning! Making a backup is important since following procedures will irreversibly replace some important files. And you definitely will want them back after you finish fooling around with Bunny Fighter.
-After backup copies are made, open "Carrot ordinance" folder and put its contents into your mods (#DBW, #SAS, etc) folder, replacing old tga files with the new ones.
-Start your game. Now all missiles and rockets, listed above, will have carrot camouflage.
-Don't freak out.

Uninstallation:
Aircraft skin:
Why? =]
Ordinance skins:
-Quit the game.
-Put backup copy of three mod folders back into your mods folder, replacing all files.
-Open "mods/MapMods/3do/arms" and delete K13A folder.
-Enjoy your boring gray ordinance.
Hey, have you lost your backup files? Don't worry, Bunny Fighter got you covered! In this case (or in any case if you feel too lazy to bother with each folder separately):
-Quit the game.
-Open "Ordinance OLD" folder and put its contents into your mods folder, replacing carrot tga files with regular ones.
-Enjoy your boring gray ordinance.

Another disclaimer: All files, provided in "Ordinance OLD" folder, are included in this download only for convenience. I do not claim ownership of these files, they are created by GJE52, BT_wasted, Lisek and Jetwar development team, and can be found here:
R3S https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,15649.0.html
R3R https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,37264.0.html
S-24, PTB490 and pylons https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,35005.0.html
UB-32-57 https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,29002.0.html

Don't jettison that droptank without important reason, painting it wasn't easy.

Three kill marks under the canopy of this Mig don't include friendly kills or damaged non-existing American planes.

This picture should represent effectiveness of underwing 30 mm cannons against Tuareg combat camels. Please disregard the fact that both of those things don't exist.

Wait, you haven't seen the video yet. Just search "Bunny fighter" in youtube and proceed at your own risk.

Oh cool, where'd you find these?  I had no luck finding pictures of the real aircraft.  Good to see she's in decent condition, at least externally.

Well, it is hard not to be in decent condition after, well, having a fresh repaint and stuff...

Just google it up, but first read an article I've provided in the first post.

blackbird420

The original aircraft is owned by a hungarian technical school where i studied.
The birds condition is well not the best since the school dont invest money to keep its aircrafts in good condition, however the Mig 21 Mf has its hydraulics, landing gear and flight controls working and the cockpit is complete. We used to learn ground tests on it like gear extension/retraction.

Here is a photo of its original paintwork:
