Flak Burst Dynamic Light for 4.12

I was hoping someone could add the excellent burst of light to flak in 4.12.
It makes those night missions a thing of true terror! I haven't been able to make it happen with any of the various FX packs like Gurner or Plutonium although its highly possible it's already working but I'm doing something wrong.

Interestingly, the "box" object in the C&C mod DOES throw off dynamic light
with each burst in 4.12 and I believe the "barrage" object does as well. But not "regular" flak bursts.

I believe the necessary code is in any of the standard packs and was originated by Sanka.
I'm guessing, of course, because I wouldn't know a classfile from an bag of walnuts.

Thanks for digging out this request.
I've been searching for an easy request as a starting point for our current Eclipse Beginners Course and thought this one might fit.

However I'm stuck at one thing ans ask for support (maybe from experienced map makers?):
How on earth do I get the heave flak to shoot at night?

For instance I did this short test:
IL-2 4.12.2m + Modact 5.3, P.A.L. QMBPro enabled in JSGME.
Started the "Normandy1" QMB mission, red single B-17, target "Airbase", defence "Flak".
When I do this at daytime, the 8.8 Flak placed around the airbase is shooting the hell out of me, but of course no Flak Burst Flash will be visible.
When I do the same at night, the 8.8 Flak does nothing. I can fly circles above the Flak and they don't react at all.

Any clue/hint?

After we went to 4.10, if I remember correctly there was an effects pack that had night time flak bursts. I'm looking for the thread now but our search function....... :)

Plutonium Mod is not suitable for 4.12 and according to it's massive modification of base game classes I doubt it will ever be (well... someone might pick up the task, who knows, but I doubt so).
Just adding the Burst Flash should be much easier, I did the classworks already for 4.12 but the question is still unanswered:

How on earth do I get the Flak to shoot at night?

@edit: Just decompiled and checked what Plutonium Mod did and funny thing is that he applied the Flak Burst exactly like I did here for testing. That tells me that the approach would actually work, however it still lacks the prove as long as I can't get the Flak to shoot at night :'(

I tested at night with clear skys and no flak. Could 4.12 have that old mod where AI cant see through clouds? Maybe its affecting flak from firing at night even without clouds?

Indeed I guess that this might be part of the AI mod put into DT.dll where there are additional visibility checks.
This in turn would mean that while this request could be fulfilled in itself, it won't make any sense at all to do so.

Hm...

I'm wondering whether there isn't any way to have realistic night bombing raids in IL-2?

could it be possible that searchlights may be required for flak to fire on you at night?

yep just confirmed that myself... make sense reading books about the night bombings usually flak was used with the search lights

I don't have 4.12 installed yet, as I believe at the moment 4.10 still offers the best environment for night missions. This for me is down to several essential mods not working fully under 4.12.

Anyway what I was going to say is due to the visibility restrictions in 4.12, do the guns fire if you have searchlights operating and illuminating the planes?

If not one of CY6's box objects should in theory work as it only takes into consideration the proximity of aircraft and as far as I know not visibility.

I was fairly heavily involved with testing for CY6 for his C&C 3.031 mod, and at the end there were still quite a few small problems remaining with it to stop it working properly in 4.10, although I have seen reports of it working in 4.12, unless anyone has ironed out these problems I doubt it is working correctly for all items. I can post the outstanding fixes needed that I found if anyone is interested.

Unfortunately CY6 was unable to fix many of these problems due to real life commitments.

I would love to see 4.12 working correctly for night missions, do you think it may be worthwhile opening a new thread on this subject? There are a few mods by Sputnikshock that need to be looked at aswell for a more realistic game.
