This is really cool!

http://theaviationist.com/2013/04/22/fclp/ <---- This Vedeo shows why if Cables can be turned On and Off you can do several touch and go's and then deploy the cables for a simulated Carrier Landing but with Cable stopping you.

An ambitious project for sure, needs a top airbase guy to do it and maybe some sort of wall object with no hitbox for the wires ?  :-\ :D
I think the lights may be doable.

Mate, you should re consider flying Falcon BMS, soon there will be an F-14B new 3D model and cockpit, plus there is carrier ops as well in campaigns afaik...dynamical campaigns.
If you want it I can give you links.

Still I think IL-2 looks better.  :)

Falcon is as old, if not older, than Il2, Bravo - you should run it no sweat. not sure about all the latest greatest modded versions, though - Thorsten will have answers to any questions, though ;)

a carrier practice field map would be great!
for WW2 purposes it need not be overly complicated, a normal field with markins for large and small carriers, together with a simulated LSO platform and a wind trouser would be sufficient;
ideally it would be a coastal area map that extends some 50miles out to sea for placement of the real thing, a CVE or CVL maybe for additional practicing :)
maybe someone could adapt or repaint the airfield situated on the tip of Hawaii, where the World War 2 Cruise campaign part 3 (the one using Corsairs) has its first few missions taking place :) that would be the ideal place for a carrier training map and the terrain is simply awesome :)

for a more modern approach, I second what Thorsten has said-should be quite a challenge for a talented modder ....

ps.: Thorsten, does the Falcon BMS F-14 still have the Falcon avionics suite or have the guys managed to give individual avionics to individual aircraft types finally :)
that was the major showstopper for me from FreeFalcon onwards-all those flyable aircraft but all had the same avionics as the Falcons...

Yes Phil, this would be a great addition to our beloved IL2, and useful, as we/Modders advance into the Jet Age, especially with Carrier Based Jets.

And Iv always thought it would be cool for WWII Carrier Based Planes as well.

Isn't there a mod that creates carrier take-off and landing missions? This may be a quicker way to try your hand at carrier ops methinks.

I can create carrier landing and take off missions quite easily;
in fact that involves just a little bit of text editing the carrier practice mission that are in the game since Pacific Fighters;
but for immersion it would be great to have an airfield map like suggested - something that is called Carrier Field Landing practice;
if you read thru accounts of carrier pilots of WW2, carrier field landing practice was extensively done during WW2;
recently I started to read the story of VMF-214 and when they had to carrier qualify, they practiced on a field marked with the outlines of a carrier first; it was important for them to gain knowledge about the "turn points" during their approach, as they could not do a straight in approach due to the long nose of the Corsair; they had to fly a curved approach and therefor needed practice about the points, where and when to turn in their approaches;

therefor, a map where you can practice touch and goes on a field with margin and room for error would be great - plus it is done that way in real life as well....
