I would like to request a working lighthouse.
« on: January 01, 2014, 11:35:55 AM »

As this is not a request for an aircraft I have only a pic of a light house.  ;D

We have hangers with glass and we have searchlights that project light for a long distance. If we had a glass top light house with a searchlight maybe " turned " on its side but programed to stay on at all times it may look like a real lighthouse. I dont think its possible to have the light constantly rotate but I'll take what I can get.  :D

Thank you for reading.  :)

It may need to be two seperate objects so the light could be " pointed " in the direction the mission builder would like.

Actually Bombs , I believe the light should rotate continuously. At least that's how they worked around here (Nova Scotia , Canada).
On the other hand I wonder whether they were often active during WW2 as they would have offered the enemy effective points of navigation.

Happy New Year , by the way , to everyone at SAS.

The reason for my request is for the Truk map I'm working. There was a lighthouse there, the Sapuk Lighthouse and it was active during the war...

Quote from http://oceanislandtravel.com/home.asp?aid=94

"This Japanese lighthouse guided ships into one of the largest of the naval bases established in Micronesia, and was heavily bombed during the war, and the lighthouse is riddled with shrapnel holes from a British strafing raid in early 1945. Located on the Sapuk Peninsula at the eastern end of Weno, the principal island of Chuuk atoll in central Micronesia."

That's right - the light is floated (or at least used to be) on a bed of mercury, and rotates continuously. The frequency of revolution (and therefore flashing), is unique to the lighthouse. The paint scheme can also be unique, and in Britain, each one used to have a unique foghorn. The colour is usually white although i've also seen red and green; these are most common coming into harbour (small lighthouses on harbour walls, such as in Calais). Also, the colour can change depending on viewing angle to give clearing lines for vessels around rocks (i.e. you see red - change course).

I do already have a model of a lighthouse, but it's on my other computer. I'll upload it in a few days when I get back to Southampton. The model is pictured below:

Hope that helps.

Thanks Matt. I do know the light rotates. I was just saying that for IL2 limitations it may need to be two objects. The lighthouse and then the light. If the light cant be made to rotate, just make it where it can be pointed in any direction you need for missions.

Hi,
there are several lighthouses on Estonia map,
it would be great improvement to have them with true lights.
