Updated Fw190 Cowling and Prop Mod 3 2010-12-12
« on: February 27, 2010, 02:49:52 PM »

This mod has always been included in the UI packs, and also in all other packs, although none seem to have ever credited it directly. For those on manual instals, can now have it seperately.
It updates all the ingame Fw190s cowl shape and prop to better 3d versions.

CREDITS:
Mr. Jolly and Daniel for the original 3d fix (thanks Waggel for the info  :) )
Sani for the correction of exhaust hooks

v3: Corrected position of exhaust hooks...extract to MODS and overwrite.

Note about v3 for 4.10. It only differs in the A4 , and only in that it retains the WfrGr21 addition in Stock 4.10. Nothing else about the Fw190 family 3d was changed in 4.10, so all hooks and stuff will be exactly the same.

Enjoy!

Now this Lady looks much sexier. Thanks for this essential finish.

May I ask if it would be useful to use this update with the last Ultrapack version?

The Fw 190 cowling mod was done by Mr. Jolly and Daniel.

We started this with the Fw-190A-3 project. The A-3 cowling was done with the original A-4 cowling. After many tests this cowling was perfect.

After this mod Mr. Jolly and Daniel also fixed the later models (A-5, A-6, A-8, A-9)
They created a new cowling with the same technique. But I always felt, that this cowling looked a little bit different.

Now I compared the cowlings and i could recognize this:

The A-3 air intake is wonderfull. Everythinf is as it should be.

The air intake of the later models (A-5, A-6, A-8, A-9) is too big.

Next problem:

The cooling blades of the later models (A-5, A-6, A-8, A-9) are too far in the cowling

The cooling blades of the early models (A-2, A-3, A-4) are 100% perfect.

So the cowling mod of the later versions needs several fixes.

But it only has to be done with one cowling. Fow example A-5

The fixed A-5 cowling then could be but into the other folders too (A-7, A-6, A-8, A-9)

Yeb. The A-9 also should have 14 cooling blades instead of just 12. I have a detailed photo somewhere ... somewhere ... please do not ask me where exactly :-S

:-D

The cooling blades of the later models (A-5, A-6, A-8, A-9) are too far in the cowling
I suspect this is because the mod was copied over to the other models without accounting for the fact that the A-5 and later had the engine moved further forward.

The BMW 801 was shifted forward 152 mm ...

Well it looks like this is the problem.
The later cowlings are not a copy but the propeller, the spinner and the cooling blades are a copy of the A-3 mod.
Mr. Jolly and Daniel feded the spinner with polygons. After this the copied the A-3 spinner into the later models, so
the spinner and the cooling blade have to be shifted forward 152 mm in the later models.

This problem might be solved be Ranwers, I saw a post of him here a while ago, maybe he is still there.
