Having another Go in WarThunder...
reviewing a Dogfight.

The Yak1, which i looked down on earlier, turns out to be just my tool for Dogfights.
You can hang two 50 kg Grenades under the wings, but then you lose your edge for no extra Firepower.
And the Yak1 needs all the Edge it can get. So, no Bombs, no pylons, no drag.

Dogfight - Kuban map.
Defending NovoRossyisk

Take off from the Airfield south of novo. Moody, good colors.
4 Humans and 6 AI per side. Yak1 my tool of choice. So, off to hunt some Nah-Tsies and other Axis scum ;-)

Takeoff

Some Noob who screwed up right away, awaiting repairs.

En route north to Novo.
keeping it low, Cloud base was , like, 5000feet.
(artifacts around plane shape... need to check vid settings)

Arriving at Novo All calm and Quiet.

She is a beautiful no nonsense Fighter.
I like her nose. ;)

Side view, still heading north past the Harbor Area

And the ground textures are lovely.

Flak. Red troops accurately aim their barrels at a bunch if LW planes.

...and these VVS idiots in their Ishkas, chasing an Emil or somesuch.(top right)
WTH are they thinking!

...here an Arrogant Luftie. he will, as per his Visual request surely get some good stuff up his [STAMP COLLECTION].

But first i need to deal with a bunch of Heinkels... they snap at 720°/s and turn on a dime. Need to be dispatched quickly, else they become a nuisance when engaging Emils and the likes.
(armored plexiglass behind my neck)

he rolled so fast that he was able to dive under my line of fire...

Almost. ;D
In critical moments like this, i instinctively close my eyes... things go fast, and passing an enemy by a handsfull of yards... is a bit much for my nerves.
 :-[

so i kept shooting and wasted a few shells of my already very limited count.

Textures... reflections... and a lot of Polygones to make a beautiful Yak. :)

turning about, just north of Novo... some Flak... some Heinkel.
This time i was even faster... caught him in a gentle turn.

BlamBlamBlam... appearently the emil from before had set his sights on me.
good thing i had no clue :D

But starting a bit furter out - here a mere second before collision, kicking the rudder pulling and twisting at the same time.
After all, bullets passing him by inches... are still... misses.

whats not so good are the wheels of the 51... a bit WTF.

But the wheels were not his main problem. 2 wings dont suffice... for a doppeldecker :D

Soon a third he51 fell to my Guns...
a really good run. I usually dont... "last" that long ;-)
ask any of my 17 Exes!

atmosphere really good in WT.

Using the Yak 1 feels like meeting up with an old Friend... you know he doesnt have the punch, but you can trust the Fella.

so with the AI dudes out of the way, it was time to tackle the lolwaffles fine and finest.

...or so i thought.
i was not ready for this, and my much too slow reaction cost me a perfect shot.
I mean like... Scheisse. Wasted Bullets. Need to get a grip.

anyway... i spotted a 109, but i was not the only one... Trafffikkkk!!
Are we dodging Bullets or Dodging silly Wingmen?

Emil up close, another one above the Harbor...mayhap?

These Daimler Benz Powered Bastages need some more attention.
The fool who messed up his Yak7 is back in the game with me.

Pushing... hard

not hard ...enuff

Too much Focus... and my tracer gives me away probably.
I remember having, at that point, catching a bunch of Bullets.
and reviewing the track, switching planes i soon found the Source of the problem...

Noseart :-)
under da Hood and on da Hood, and the Kill markings on either side too.

let me finish the story then... and one story it is! not several mixed together!
takes ages cutting this stuff, but it was all over in a matter of two minutes. Just like they say in the books.

While i had Yellow nose chase me,

i set my sights on Mister Stamp Collection.

Mister Fool was in the game too, and we both tried to get in that Friedrich booty!

He was someone who didn't seem to think the same as me: 4xsc50 is better than nothing, and so he was left with the Rack dangling uselessly from his belly, Bombs dropped in the wild.

Teamwork... Fool and i were really close Buddies at one moment. he mighta' messed up his Takeoff,

but was dancing a tight dance not afraid, and handling his crate well.

and it was him who got Mister "StampCollection"
Pushed the Dude over the edge and made him stall into the trees below.
maybe a fool, but not so much afterall.

BoF Emil putting on some Pressure...

and the damage done by Yellow nose Emil

BoF Emil soon to be gonner...

Is he smoking? Yea he is, isn't he?

Shot...
take a moment, and look at the light from the Flash. It does not spread out  equally, but is defined by a reflective texture applied on the Yak surfaces.

BoF Emil has had some treatment by the VVS already...

The game lets you place 'decals' that you unlock as you play.

Often though they are enlarged to try and make the aircraft into some "street racer" looking japanese import, Its one reasone I'm kinds happy you cant make your own skins for the game or 90% of players would be flying neon signs rather than decent historical schemes

agreed - and that 109 F had a quite ugly, even if fitting setup of noseart.
what i find the worst os the Poles anc the Czech dudes - they take a sticker that is several yards wide and make their Planes Visible with red and white and Blue.
Not that it bothers me as such - taste and all...
But they render themselves visible in the game, and get a Pounding. because one can see the Polish red and white pattern from Miles afar, and there is a 90% chance that such a paintscheme is on an allied Plane.
Its tactically stupid as fork.

Overshot... he definitely caught some lead before.

Loop, come behind as he tries to conceal himself in the shadows of the hill...
(this game does not work without no tracking device, i swear!)

And with great pleasure... a kick that really made me smile... SPLAMMMMM!!!!
Squashing the squid!  :P

I rarely get Air to Air kills, because i shy away from 109s, 112s and the like.
But that Mission... with a bit of help i managed to put some lead to good use.
Note the single red Cannon shell ricocheting off the hill.

Visually impressive. but the paint job leaves a  LOT to be desired.mapping at the wing tips, top color/bottom color discrepancies... Prop Blades scratched to an intolerable level...
the paintschemes available are overall nothing to be Proud of.
nevertheless. he dies. I win.

he still dies.
and i still survive. :P
(burn, M****f*** burn!!)
 8) ;D :P :P

But it took a maximum amount of effort, because you can never trust these damn trees....
Rudder, Elev, Ail, just to avoid crashing

I never saw yellownose Emil again. didn't care either.
We took the Match and from the points gained i bought myself a freshly rebuilt and cleaned Radiator.
less Overheating, a bit more much needed Oomph for another session.

Yak-1. if you ever come across one, get it.
Not the Ruler of the skies, but in the Team, and with Rage and determination...

In "simulator" Mode, its like the popular "spitfire vs 109" server On Hyperlobby.
takeoff, go to clash, shoot, get shot, survive or die, RTB, refuel rearm repair, rinse and repeat.
Nobody except the diehards ever makes a plan, a diversion, a coordinated attack.
the action can be translated 1:1

The differences are: less accurate FM's and systems, graphics and sound improved.
since it costs nothing i would say: give it a go.
It serves me as a transition away from IL-2, gearing up for BoS.

coming up: drive Tanks. A bit like World of Tanks, but limited to 38-45, and sure as hell more care for accuracy.
