"Field Modified" Gloster Sea Gladiator, Version 2.0

6x .303 Mg's.

"Faith"

RP-3 armed Gladiator (fictional)

Download

You MUST have the SAS Gladiator pack installed for this to work:
https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php?topic=2585.0

Field modified version:
https://www.mediafire.com/?tx49oefi34ha9st

Notes for version 2.0:

The mod adds a field modified version of the sea gladiator, with three seperate weapons options.
One version has two extra lewis guns mounted in the upper wing - the "field modified version", based on admiralty trials.
The second version has an entirely fictional, but plausible armament of two hispano Mk1 cannon and two browning machine guns.
The third version, also fictional, adds 8x RP-3 rockets for ground attack and anti shipping strikes.

Also included as of version 2.0 is a version of the famous aircraft "Faith", which served in the defense of Malta. The aircraft
has an uprated Mercury engine from a Blenheim, so has a bit more power than the standard MkII. The skin is a generic Gladiator skin of the period currently.

Credits:

This is a "mod of a mod", based on the "Gladiator and SeaGladiator pack for SAS", by Muas
Charlie Chap, CirX and Avala. All i've done is a bit of 3D work and some java coding.
As ever, thanks to the original game developers - a very fine 3D model of the Gladiator.

Installation:

Copy Gladiator folder to "#SAS", and add the following lines to the files listed:

To air.ini:

SeaGladiatorMkIIMod  air.SEAGLADIATOR3 1                   NOINFO  gb01  DESERT

Excellent; suggestions on a postcard! I was thinking somethong slong the lines of 2x 100lb bombs, one 250lb bomb or 6-8 rocket projectiles. I think a rocket armed Gladiator would be particularly cool.

One of the Maltese Gladiators was modified with two additional (Vickers K maybe?) 7,7mm machine gun over the upper wing, in WWI style (like SE5a's Lewis gun on Foster mounting). And also upgraded with an engine and propeller get from a Blenheim wreck. That would be nice to have, too.

These look great, been hoping to see the 6-gun gladiator for a while now! Adding the engine mods would be even cooler!

I just love “what if” or fictional mods of this sort.  It brought back an idea I had when flying a battle of France campaign.  Why couldn’t we have our fighters carry bombs so we could effectively attack the German ground forces?   Strafing with rifle caliber machine guns was difficult and not very effective, especially when your target was armored vehicles.

This made me wonder why certain early fighters were not fitted with bomb racks so they could be used more effectively for ground attack.  I know they were urgently needed for air defense, but most them had to do some ground attack duties from time to time and bombs would have made them more effective in the support role. This includes early fighters like the Gladiator, Fokker D-XXI, Ms-406, Dewoitine D.520, D.510 & 372, Hawker Fury (i.e., Hispano Fury), Curtiss P-36, etc.   Even the Poles PZL P-11’s carried light bombs!

Maybe you could start the making this a reality by adding an additional (fictional) version of the Gladiator that would carry bombs like your post above.  If it could carry 4 rockets under the wings, why not add some small bombs or at least a couple of 100lb bombs under the wings and maybe a 250 or 500lb bomb under the fuselage.  Maybe this could even be a mixed load of rockets & bombs?

Just a thought and a hope …

some suggestions - 2 x 100lb's (maybe options of 1 per wing, or both under the fuselage?)
1 x250lb - test to see if the plane will take off with it ;)
for rockets, a 2x rockets per wing might realistically have been tested, but keep the 4x just for fun :D

another 'just for fun' idea i had was a two-seater version (rear gunner position), but this might require too much work, so maybe leave it in the idea phase, lol     8)
