Is it possible to plan a barrage in the FMB?

I'm working on a mission in the Full Mission Builder at the moment and encountered under object/artillery the object arty_barrage. What does it do exactly? Is it possible to plan a barrage on a certain point? I'm asking this because when I place this object I only see a piece of artillery on the map, which isn't even firing. Please advise.
