How do you bash together a plane from others?
« on: March 22, 2014, 09:34:42 AM »

I have a plane I want to do and it can be made from parts of other planes currently in the sim. How do you go about it and what software is required?

First thing to do would be to read through the boards. It takes time but it's worth it.
At some given time you'll figure what hier.him is so you get a good starting point.
You'll face other problems then and will want to read further on.
In case you stumbled upon some new issue which has not been dealt with before (highly unlikely at the current stage of your intentions) you might want to start another thread to ask for help specific to that issue again.
If so, it's always a good idea to choose a subject that will attract those who might be in the know.
"How do you bash together" doesn't match the attraction profile of anyone.

Best regards - Mike

this is a good start:

even if you manage to make a new ac from old parts you will run into the problem of slot and fm which is unfortunately much more complicated than editing a him file, plus you need to take care of the cockpit and all kinds of textures which is another layer of work

To be honest a lot of guys try to start with the most difficult task of all - a whole new aircraft... once they realise that they may have bitten off far more than they can chew,  they drop off the radar real fast....  ;)

If you are really serious I would suggest you set aside some time and start with a few more modest static items .. like a hangar or static vehicle ... just to get an understanding of the requirements.  3d modding is a demanding, time consuming and unforgiving bitch at the best of times ...   ;)

I was thinking of just putting together a Frankenstein plane from parts of stock planes and was hoping that would be simpler than building one from scratch. I did model some virtual  planes a long time ago but not sure I want to get into that again.

I will keep searching here and try to figure it out.
Thanks,

What I'm trying to tell is that unless you find a java programmer who wants to help you out with a slot then you wont even be able to get your creation into the game.

I thought you could replace a stock plane with the Franken plane?

Yes you can, sort of, but the franken must have similar features to the "host model" otherwise you need new java coding for it to work correctly.

If you start by using an existing modded aircraft, you can open the model folder and see all of the individual msh files and textures. Then open the hier.him file in a text editor and you will see all of the msh files listed and various bits of text code which defines how each msh is arranged in the model.

You can edit the hier.him to change the arrangement of the visual model on screen.
Of course that is just a start, but see how you get on with it.

Thanks, yes the two planes would be very similar.

I want to change the in game Ta-183

Into this fantasy Mig the was thought to be real and even featured in magazines and produced by a plastic model company.
