I guess they were testing the Apollo and other US Space systems on his plane and managed to land it by itself with the computer  ;)

Or he forgot to turn off the level stabilizer.  :P

Something similar happened in Czechoslovak air force :P Well, it was belly landing, but still :D it was like... 1950s I guess.
