hahaha - got a few hours in today and have almost completed the crunching.  Trouble is there is always more to get in.  PA_Jeronimo's Cockpit improvements + a number of other 3dfixes + a massive expansion of the stationary aircraft list, practically mirroring the air.ini now.

More space has allowed for a larger flightline too and that means flight testing new stuff.  Apart from a directly reduced filesize, consolidation and compression also eliminates a lot of wastage and repetition, and the performance is smoooooth.

With JSGME now empty for this install, we can use it to add the various #SAS Modact Options as we wish, they will be included, and also play around with flight models and different meshes that can be easily turned on/off for extra choice.  So JSGME becomes a little options tuner and I will include a new JSGMEMODS folder with all new options ready to go. 8)

I assume that it will still have a mods folder that a few "I must have this or...." items can be added outside the base TFM412 ?

Hello Gents, lovely mod here.

I started with a clean install from Steam and have gotten to the point where I need the SFS files from UP3.  I have DLed the torrent from the link provided and now have all the .rar files.  What do I do with them though?  How do I get the correct .sfs files?

Thank you in advance!

Put them in the game root folder, you will see other files down towards the bottom similarly named, i.e.

up_maps01.sfs-to 05sfs
up_objects01.sfs..to..04.sfs
up_texture01, 02...etc
updbw_mapex01.sfs...to 08.sfs.

It's been so long I don't remember if most are totally new or if some will be rewritten.

Problem is, there are no updbw files in the UP3_RC torrent I Dled.  I have no idea where to get those.  I have the others (files that are JUST UP).

Do I need to apply the RC4 patch?

Edit: I updated my UP3 RC with RC4.  Did not see any updbw files.

I just Dled the base DBW files from the DBW subforum on this site, still no updbw files.  Bit lost here.

Another update: On the DBW page I have found a link for the updbw files but only up to number 6 so far as I can tell, which leaves 7 and 8

Stinky,

It's good you got UP3RC4 up.  Does it work?  If so you can now fly on the SAS server with it.

For the dbw (Dark Blue World) files you must download Dark Blue World (for 410.1m).  I would recommend copying your working UP3 out of steam and into another folder...something like C/IL2 or something.  Dark Blue World is installed on top of UP3RC4.  Copying the working folder of UP3 before adding DBW onto it would also help, that way if something messes up you won't have to start from scratch.

Cheers

Thanks for the reply.

I have gotten all the .sas files from UP3 into my IL2 root directory.

All that remained were the updbw files.  However, the DL links for 01-06 are available on this sites subforum for the base DBW installation and I have just found a link that contained the remaining two:

https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,40015.msg490662.html#msg490662

Hopefully this will allow me to move forward with the installation.  So many big files this has taken all day and I've barely started ><

It is worth it.  Do save a copy of a working UP3RC4 and come fly on the SAS server.  It's not what you would expect.

Okay, I've got it going and I am DLing the pack by pack and enabling them with JSGME.  Funny thing, I can DL them faster than I can enable them with JSGME (seems to take forever with each mod pack of TFM)

For reference, I am up to the coldwar package (number 09) and am in the process of enabling ships (package 10).  I believe it has been enabling for more than 10 minutes now

@stinkydivebomb: Honestly mate, you are a bit late to start with TFM-412, which is your good fortune; because we are going to provide EVERYTHING in 10 small downloads and put up all the UP.SFS files for those that don't have them.  Save your time and bandwidth because almost none of your downloads will be needed when the new kid hits the block in the next week.

I have a pretty good Internet plan at 500Gb per month.  But this is the time of year when it gets squeezed and it would be a damn shame to find yourself capped because you downloaded a shedload of content you don't need.

The only reason I have left up the previous links is for people maintaining/repairing an already running install - and because I never assume everyone will agree with a new idea.  But best advice is to hold off for a short time...  :)
