When flying, look out the left window. You must keep the planes wing pointed down toward the target. Pull the trigger once to get a single shell fired at the target. Then when you're sure you're close, pull the trigget again for full barage.
The artty spotter idea is just the fact that you have a battleships guns attached to the plane that you cant see but you fire.
